Back to School 2019: Bashes, Giveaways & Other Events

Get ready to trade in those flip flops and swimsuits for backpacks and notebooks.


The first day of school for Pinellas County students is Wednesday, August 14th. To help you prep for the upcoming school year, we've compiled a list of back-to-school bashes, supply giveaways, health clinics, sales and other events in the St. Petersburg, Florida area. Read on for all of the details.

Dates ending August 13th | 8am-2pm


The Florida Department of Health in Pinellas County (DOH-Pinellas) is offering its annual summer Back to School clinics to students in grades K-12 through Tuesday, August 13 by appointment only. DOH-Pinellas’ school-based clinics provide school, sports and well-child physicals, including immunizations, at no cost for clients in need. Vision screenings, provided by Preserve Vision Florida, as well as assistance for glasses and exams (for qualifying clients) will be available. SERTOMA Speech & Hearing Foundation of Florida, Inc. will provide support to students who need additional hearing consultation and screening. For a complete list of dates and locations, click here.

August 2nd-6th | In Stores & Online

During this sales tax holiday period, qualifying items will be exempt from tax including certain school supplies selling for $15 or less per item and clothing, footwear, and certain accessories selling for $60 or less per item. August 2nd-4th | Tyrone Square Mall

Join Tyrone Square for Back-to-School Bash events starting Friday August 2nd through Sunday August 4th. From August 2-4, shoppers can bring their receipts of $250 or more from a Tyrone Square Mall retailer, date range from August 2- 4, to receive a backpack filled with school supplies & goodies (while supplies last). On August 3, join in the Back to School Bash celebration in Center Court from 11:30 am- 1:30 pm featuring latest school trends & uniforms from Macy's. National Pediatric Cancer Foundation will also be joining the fun with local children who beat the odds! Enjoy fun and music with a DJ that will be in Center Court along with face painter, arts and crafts, retailer must-haves & more. On August 4, the fun continues with Competitive Edge Performances in Dick's Sporting Goods Court at 1 pm & 3 pm.

Saturday, August 3rd | 9am-12pm | Prince of Peace Lutheran Church, Largo


Get a head start on the school year with packets of free school supplies (while they last), free hair cuts for kids, free school physicals, screenings, and plenty of fun and games for the kids!


Saturday, August 3rd | 10am-12pm | Good Samaritan Church, Pinellas Park


Join Good Samaritan Church Pinellas Park for its 3rd Annual Good Sam Back2School Festival featuring free haircuts (first come, first served), free school supplies (while supplies last), and free popcorn, frozen treats, stories, coloring, bounce house, portrait drawings, glitter tattoos, and kid health tips from a doctor.


Saturday, August 3rd | 10am-1pm | SPC Health Education Center, Pinellas Park


Come out for a day of family fun hosted by the Pinellas Park Gateway Chamber of Commerce, Pinellas Park Medical District and the City of Pinellas Park. The event will include free bike helmets, raffles, K9 demo, live music, touch-a-truck, Nomad Art Bus, backpacks & school supplies (while supplies last), and food.


Saturday, August 3rd | 10am-2pm | Largo Central Park


As summer break is quickly coming to a close, come out and see what Largo Recreation has to offer! There will be information about after school programs that are hosted at Highland and Southwest Recreation Complexes. Also enjoy live entertainment, play games, and participate in fun contests. This event is free and open to the public.


Sunday, August 4th | 10am | Beaming Hope Church, Largo


Join Beaming Hope Church for Back-To-School-Bash fun for the family. Free backpacks, school supplies, gift card giveaways, gently used clothes for all ages, and much more. To receive free goods, recipients must attend church service first. Registration begins at 9:30am.


Sunday, August 4th | 2-3pm | Barbara S. Ponce Public Library


Future kindergartners are invited to a special storytime to prepare them for the big day! Let the countdown to Kindergarten begin! Registration required. Please stop by the library's Youth Services desk or call 727-369-0664 to register.


Friday, August 9th | 2-4pm | The Fountains at Boca Ciega Bay

Summer is coming to an end and school is almost back in session, so send the kids off with a Back-to-School Carnival to remember! There will be a dunk tank, pie in the face game, petting farm, pony rides, face painter, balloon artist, and tons of games, food and good fun. Suggested donation is $5 per person or $15 per family. All proceeds benefit Watermark for Kids.


Saturday, August 10th | 7am | Pinellas Park Health Department


Children ages of 4 to 18 can receive dental exams and X-rays at no cost at 6350 76th Ave. N., Pinellas Park at the Back to School dental clinic courtesy of the Florida Department of Health in Pinellas County’s (DOH-Pinellas). Parents can make appointments for any needed services that can’t be provided during the Back to School clinic. The clinic opens at 7 a.m. and the services will be provided on a first come, first served basis.


Saturday, August 10th | 11am-1:30pm | The Sanderlin Center


Join The Sanderlin Center for an End of Summer Family Fun Day and BBQ! They'll be serving up FREE lunch, BBQ, Ice Pops, and water as well as handing out FREE school supplies and haircuts. Kids are invited to enjoy the bounce house, too.


Sunday, August 11th | 11am-5pm | Kenwood's Organic Produce


Kenwood's Organic Produce will be hosting a back-to-school party with Vegan Ray serving up kid-friendly plant-based barbecue, the skunk rescue giving out skunk hugs from 11-1, Elise Pickett from Urban Harvest giving a sample lesson from her new Tinkergarten class from 12-3, fun kids crafts, chair massages, and so much more.
