Local aid for federal workers in St. Petersburg

A list of restaurants and other businesses offering free meals, services and other discounts for furloughed workers during the government shutdown.

Free food, drinks, services for federal workers during shutdown

As the partial government shutdown continues, local businesses and organizations are stepping up to help relieve the financial pressure felt by furloughed workers. Here's where to find discounts, deals and other assistance in the St. Petersburg area (just remember to bring your federal government ID):


Places to Eat & Drink

Brew D Licious

Federal workers can stop by Brew D Licious for any coffee, tea, drink or pastry.


Casita Taqueria

For every week of the partial government shutdown, Casita Taqueria will give a free meal from the menu and a non-alcoholic drink to those employees not being paid. Just present your Government ID or paystub.


Kahwa Coffee

FREE small drip coffee for government employees affected by the shutdown at Kahwa Coffee.


Paradise Grille

Paradise Grille (Pass-a-Grille) is offering a free meal and beverage of choice to any federal employee and their immediate family affected by the government shutdown for the entire month of January.


Pia's Trattoria

Pia's Trattoria in Gulfport is offering a free daily meal to go from their regular menu for federal employees and their families until the shutdown is resolved.


Romano's Macaroni Grill

For every day the government shutdown is in effect, Macaroni Grill is offering all furloughed federal government employees a free Mom's Ricotta Meatballs + Spaghetti. All you have to do is show your federal ID. (Valid through 1/31/19 or until the Government shutdown ends, whichever happens first).


The Artisan + Art & Food Collective

The Artisan, located in Gulfport, will give a free single food item from the Lure menu for every week of the shutdown to government employees not being paid.


Tour de Pizza

Federal employees not getting a paycheck can get a free lunch or dinner at Tour de Pizza.


Things to Do

Sunken Gardens & Boyd Hill Nature Preserve

City of St. Petersburg is offering free admission to Sunken Gardens and Boyd Hill Nature Preserve for federal workers beginning Saturday, January 19 throughout the duration of the federal government shutdown.


Sky Zone Clearwater

Federal government employees who are furloughed or currently without pay and up to three immediate family members are each eligible for one free 60-minute jump per day at participating Sky Zone locations every Tuesday through Thursday until January 31, 2019.


Other Services & Offers

City of Pinellas Park

City of Pinellas Park will defer certain utility fees for federal employees and Coast Guard members.


Curv Exchange Plus Size Resale Boutique

Curv Exchange Plus Size Resale Boutique is offering $20 in-store Curv Credit to government

employees.


Gabby Q Cuts

Gabby Q Cuts (Largo) is giving free haircuts by appointment to federal workers affected by the shutdown.


Humane Society of Pinellas

Humane Society of Pinellas is offering free pet food for furloughed federal employees.


Sit Happens

Sit Happens is a drop-off location for any and all dog-related needs for those affected by the government shut down and their pets. The dog training and behavior modification provider will also be offering training and behavioral consulting services for government employees and their dogs.


How to Help

Allendale UMC

During the government shutdown, Allendale UMC will be collecting gift cards for the workers affected the hardest by the government shutdown. This will be ongoing until the shutdown ends. Suggested gift cards are Visa, American Express, grocery, gas station, Target, Walmart, etc. in any increment. These can be dropped off at the green office door located on Haines Rd Monday-Thursday, 7am-3pm.


Babycycle

Babycycle has already donated over 10,000 diapers and 17,000 wipes to Coast Guard families affected by the shutdown. Diaper donations are always accepted -- most needed sizes are 4, 5, 6, and pull-ups of all sizes.


City of St. Petersburg

The City of St. Petersburg is accepting donations for the local US Coast Guard families through the Sun Coast branch of the US Coast Guard Chief Petty Officer’s Association (CPOA). There will be collection boxes located at City Hall, 175 5thStreet North, St. Petersburg, FL. Suggested items include gift cards, non-perishable food items, cleaning supplies, toiletry items, baby items, and pet food.


Dissent Craft Brewing Co.

Dissent Craft Brewing Co. is hosting Craft Beer for a Cause on Saturday, January 26th, 11am-10pm. 20 taps will be sponsored on this "Tap Sponsorship" day, plus a percentage of beer sales for the day will be donated. 100% of monies raised will be given to local charities providing assistance to federal workers.


St. Petersburg Free Clinic

St. Petersburg Free Clinic is the official donation site for the St. Petersburg Coast Guard. All donations can be brought directly to the clinic and daily deliveries will be made to the Coast Guard. They are currently in need of diapers, wipes, feminine hygiene items, cleaning supplies, toiletries, gas gift cards, and Publix gift cards.
