Localtopia for Kids: Know Before You Go

Get the details on this St. Pete-centric and family-friendly event.

Localtopia 2020

Keep St. Petersburg Local’s Localtopia is back and bigger than ever in 2020! The 7th annual “Community Celebration of All Things Local” returns to Williams Park and the surrounding streets on Saturday, February 22nd and will showcase over 250 independent St. Petersburg businesses and community organizations.

This year, the festival runs from 10 am until 5 pm and extends down 3rd Street for the first time ever, adding room for more vendors and a second stage for more entertainment.

While Localtopia is famous for featuring options for everyone — including an Arts Village, Food Truck Rally Alley + Restaurant Row, Breweries + Beer Trucks, Boutiques, Health and Wellness Village, #AllThingsPlants Village, Family Village, live entertainment, and more — we’re, of course, most interested in what’s available for our Sunshine City kids.

Here’s a look at what to expect when bringing your whole crew to Localtopia this weekend.

Localtopia 2020

ARTS + CRAFTS

Find the Nomad Art Bus alongside makeme studio's camper Clementine, and the Clara Rose Ice Cream Truck on 3rd Street. Here, this trifecta of cuteness invites the kids (and kids at heart) to paint the outside of the Nomad Art Bus, step inside Miss Clementine for some craft-making, or grab a scoop or two from Clara Rose. Walk to the other end of 3rd Street to “build your own book” and participate in the book and zine exchange in the Literary Corner.

SCIENCE!

The St. Petersburg Science Festival, known for its annual October STEAM celebration, will be bringing all of the science to the grassy area inside of the Family Village in Williams Park. This “Mini Science Fest” will include activities like “DNA Detectives” with USFSP College of Marine Science Breitbart Lab and a hurricane simulation activity with the USGS St. Petersburg Coastal and Marine Science Center. The St. Petersburg Science Festival and St. Pete Innovation District round out the area with “Innovation with Legos” and a Virtual Reality experience!

GAMES + OTHER ACTIVITIES

Head over to 2nd Avenue N for some fun games right on the street and even a chance to pose for some pics inside of the Rollin’ Retro VW bus photo booth. Make your way to the Bandstand for some hooping and dancing on the lawn or to the “New to Localtopia” block located on 3rd Street for more arts + crafts with The James Museum and a musical petting zoo with Girls Rock Camp.

FAMILY VILLAGE

We may be biased, but this year’s Family Village just might be the best yet. With family-focused vendors like Wee Gallery, Surely Scout, The Littlest Trunk, and Sunshine City Kids (hey, that's us!), this is where you can get all of the cool finds and useful info for your little ones. Sunshine City Kids will even be debuting a brand new t-shirt design just for the kids, so make sure to stop by and say hi — a limited amount of FREE SCK stickers and pins will be available exclusively for the day as well. And if you need a break, Thank You Mama will be providing a Family Rest Area here.
