MLK Day Celebrations & Camps

Martin Luther King, Jr. Day is Monday, January 15. No school for this important holiday means your kids have a chance to honor and explore Dr. King's inspiring legacy through family activities. Read on for the best MLK happenings in St. Petersburg.


And while many of us aren't able to stay home from work, we've also included fun day camps to keep your kids entertained for the day. Click the links below for more information.

MLK Day at Great Explorations

Join Great Explorations Children's Museum for Martin Luther King, Jr. themed activities throughout the day focused on making a positive impact in our community and the world and empowering children to be proud of what makes them unique. All activities are included in membership/admission.

MLK Day of Service

Come to the 2018 MLK Day of Service. See how you can get connected, be involved and contribute to the vision. Learn from experienced gardeners and volunteers some great tips. Engage with your neighbors, plants, the chickens and the larger community. Enjoy a fantastic meal with plenty of produce fresh from the garden. Do your part to continue and contribute to the constructive community care work of the BPCG.

Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Dream Big Parade

St. Petersburg welcomes Ed Waters, Talladega College, FAMU, South Carolina State, and Tuskegee Universities in its 33rd Annual MLK Dream Big Parade. The parade will begin at 11am and start near St. Pete Pier and end across the street from Tropicana Field on 16th Street South. This parade route is designed to allow participants  and parade goers to enjoy a full day of activities.

Join MLK Dream Big at Tropicana Field following the MLK Dream Big Parade for more free entertainment, games, information, and fun for the entire family.

MLK Day of Service Project

Come together with your community to fight hunger! Two Hangry Chicks is teaming up with the St. Petersburg City Theatre, the 6th Grade Cadette Girl Scout Troop #1204, and Meals of Hope to implement an MLK Day of Service Project. The St. Petersburg City Theater was awarded a grant through the St. Petersburg College's MLK Day of Service and these funds will be used to package 10,000 meals for the local community! Help is needed to pack the meals. This family-friendly volunteer opportunity will fill up fast so reserve your spot now.

Speak the Dream MLK Family Workshop

Families with children ages 5-12 are invited to American Stage for a FREE workshop about dreaming big! Participants will explore what it means to “have a dream” through simple, interactive theatre games, take a backstage tour of American Stage, and meet cast members from our upcoming production of "A Raisin in the Sun." A fun way for families to learn about MLK, and celebrate the power of community!

MLK Jr. Day Camp

Your children will be in a safe, fun environment and will participate in activities, arts and crafts, sports, swimming, and more! Bring a lunch, swimsuit, and towel. Snack will be provided. Ages 5 to 12 years old.

School's Out Playcamp

This program is based on the Pinellas County Schools’ in-service and professional training days and is designed for customers who are not currently enrolled in our Before School or After School Program. This program offers creatively planned indoor and outdoor activities supervised by well trained staff. Extended care is available at most sites for an additional fee. Fee assistance is available to those who qualify. Camps available for elementary and middle grades.

School Year Day Camp

Bayside Sports Academy camps provide fun and challenging experiences under the care and supervision of highly trained & skilled coaches. Camps are offered for children who will be 5 on or before September 1, 2017 through 13 years of age.
