Weekend Guide: April 5 - 7

Start making plans for the weekend! There are LOTS of fun things to do around St. Petersburg!


The first weekend of the month is always full, and April is no exception. The trees are blooming, the birds are chirping, the weather is perfect, and there are so many fun things happening this weekend for kids and families.

Friday, April 5th


Open Gym at Bayside Sports Academy

Open Gym is open to children ages 6 & under every Friday. $6/child. 9:00-11:00am.

Terrific Tots at Great Explorations

This members-only program is offered when school is in session for children ages 1-3 and a caregiver. Join the museum for songs and movement, story time, an art or craft exploration and community time for tots and their adults! 9:30-10:00am.

Join Baby Boot Camp St Pete at the Sundial every First Friday for a FREE class open to all moms. Please register in advance and fill out the waiver at www.BabyBootCamp.com. 9:30-10:30am.


Toddler Early Literacy Program at St. Petersburg Main Library

Join the library for story time featuring movement, music and fun with rhymes, stories, and puppets! For children ages 1 - 3 with a caregiver. 10:15am and 11:00am.


Preschool Story Time at Gulf Beaches Public Library

Preschool-aged children can enjoy songs, stories and crafts with a "Letter B" theme! 10:30am.

Master Builders at Barbara S. Ponce Public Library

Put your engineering skills to the test every Friday! Build with LEGO bricks, KEVA planks and other fun materials. No registration required; grades K & up. 3:30-4:30pm.


Sacred Heart Festival at SacredHeart Parish

The Sacred Heart Spring Festival begins Thursday, April 4 and ends Sunday, April 7 in Pinellas Park. Featuring rides, games, food, drinks, vendors, entertainment, and more, this event offers free admission and parking. Ride, game, and food prices vary. 6:00-11:00pm.


Kids Night Out at Romp n' Roll

Looking for a reliable date night sitter? Join Romp n' Roll every Friday night for Kids Night Out. Each week will feature a different theme and children will get the chance to enjoy a pizza party, gym activities, bounce house and more! For children ages 2 to 5; $25 for members and $30 for non-members. 6:00-9:00pm.


Have a teen or tween in your life who loves creating? Drop them off at makeme's teen/tween crafting sessions! This month they'll be creating sassy selfies - self portraits on canvas panel inspired by pop art.  You email makeme a photo in advance (head and top of shoulders) - and they sketch it out for you.  During class kids will paint, gab, and eat pizza! Ages 8 & up; $25. 6:00-8:00pm.


Movies in the Park at Largo Central Park

Gather up the family, grab your blankets, and join Largo Recreation for a movie on the big screen! "Teen Titans Go to the Movies" will start at dusk. On-site parking and concessions are available. 7:00-9:00pm.


St. Pete Shuffle at St. Petersburg Shuffleboard Club

Friday nights are free and open to the public at the St. Petersburg Shuffleboard Club! Bring your own food and beverages and enjoy the courts. 7:00-10:00pm.

"The Stars of Spring" at SPC Planetarium & Observatory

Explore the stars without trekking far from home, for a price that's out of this world: Free. The planetarium offers two free public shows on Friday nights when the college is in session. Shows are hosted by resident astronomer Dr. Craig Joseph and feature live narration with images displayed by computer-controlled projectors. Ages 5+. 7:00pm & 8:15pm.


Movie in the Park at Constitution Park

Pack a picnic and cooler, grab your loved ones and bring a chair/blanket to see "Ralph Breaks the Internet" under the stars at Constitution Park in Redington Shores! FREE event! 7:30-10:00pm.


Saturday, April 6th


Join St. Petersburg Parks & Recreation for the 16th Annual Teen BBQ Cook-off and Community Yard Sale at Crescent Lake Park! There will be chicken, ribs, wings and a whole lot of family fun! The Yard Sale begins at 8am. Food and fun will start at 10am. Admission is free; $3 activity bracelets for unlimited inflatables, game, arts & crafts, and face painting are available. Food tickets are sold separately. 8:00am-1:00pm.


SPAS Navigating Nature Camp at Boyd Hill Nature Preserve

Navigating Nature, sponsored by the St. Petersburg Audubon Society, is a free camp for kids in grades 4 through 8. Campers are given the opportunity to experience nature up-close-and-personal through a variety of activities including nature walks, animal encounters, crafts, and hands-on science. 8:30-11:30am.


ELC PreK 5K Readiness Run at Boyd Hill Nature Preserve

Villagers are invited to step into a Fairytale Forest, where runners can experience the beauty of Boyd Hill Nature Preserve on Lake Maggiore.  At the end of the race, everyone is invited into the Storybook Village, where literary classics will be brought to life by community childcare providers.  There will be reading activities, games, parent resources, entertainment and more–all to support the importance of early learning and literacy.  All proceeds will go towards Coalition programs that serve the children of Pinellas County. 9:00am-12:30pm.


Youth STEMposium at SPC Allstate Center

Kidventions STEM Academy, Inc, in conjunction with the Epsilon Beta Sigma Chapter of Sigma Gamma Rho Sorority, Inc, will host an event like no other -- get ready to be STEM-ulated, STEM-pired, and STEM-powered! The Youth STEMposium will feature food, music, entertainment, and hands-on activities that are designed to challenge, uncover creativity and foster imagination. Tickets are free but registration required. 9:00am-2:30pm.

Saturday Morning Market at Al Lang Stadium

This lively and huge outdoor market opens at Al Lang Stadium every Saturday. Live music, a variety of vendors, and a strong sense of community make this market the heart of St. Pete. 9:00am-2:00pm.


Kids Workshop at The Home Depot

Encourage a love for nature and ornithology in Home Depot's hands-on workshop where you and your child can build a birdhouse. Once your birdhouse is built, your child can decorate it with paint and stickers. All kids get to keep their craft, receive a certificate of achievement, a Workshop Apron, and a commemorative pin while supplies last. 9:00am-12:00pm.


Brunch with the Bunny at Southwest Recreation Complex

Join Largo Recreation for Brunch with the Bunny! There will be food, crafts and games, and of course a photo op with the Easter Bunny. Cost is $6/child and $2/adult. Open to ages 6 & Under. Call Southwest at 518-3125 for more information. 9:00-11:00am.


Join Sky Zone for an extra special Toddler Time Event! So many characters will be joining in for a huge Bounce Bash! Come Meet, greet, jump with them all. Just $14 per child with free accompanying adults. 9:30-11:00am.


Kidding Around Yoga at the Museum of Fine Arts

This class is specifically designed for kids – families welcome.  Practicing yoga with everyone in the family, and especially children, creates a special bond. Ages 3 & older. $5 per person, includes admission to the MFA Collection galleries only. 10:00-11:00am.


Open Tree Climb at Pathfinder Outdoor Education

Pathfinder's trained facilitators take you through a brief ground school and then you can climb at your own pace into the canopy of a gorgeous live oak. Anyone ages 6 and up can climb - it's not just for kids! And it's FREE for every climber. 10:00am-3:00pm.


Saturdays @ the Morean is a free family drop-in art studio hosted by the Morean Arts Center. 10:00am-3:30pm.


Largo Central Railroad at Largo Central Park

Join Largo Central Railroad for a ride around beautiful Largo Central Park on the miniature railroad.  The accurately modeled scale locomotives pull you and your family along a mile long loop through great scenery, the spooky tunnel and a waterfall pond.  Fun for all ages! 10:00am-4:00pm.


Storytime at Barnes & Noble

Join Barnes & Noble for a storytime and activities featuring "Family Forever." 11:00am.

Little Surrealists Tour at The Dali Museum

Kids ages 4-11 are invited to bring their families on a special 1-hour Museum tour. Free with museum admission. 11:00am-12:00pm.


Eggstravaganza at Practically Pikasso

Kids are invited to use their creativity painting 2 ceramic eggs. Practically Pikasso will glaze and fire them then put together a basket with candy included! Beautiful personalized keepsakes for years to come! Reservations Required. Discounted price for additional painters. No charge for parents not painting. $18. 11:00am-12:00pm.

Make & Take at the Museum of Fine Arts

Create your own masterpiece inspired by works in the collection and special exhibitions. Supplies are included. Free with admission. 11:00am-2:00pm.

Playing Unplugged & Touch a Truck at Largo Central Park

This special day brings two great events into one single day for children of all ages. This event will include the popular Playing Unplugged and well-known Touch-a-Truck events. From big trucks and boats to kids crafts and games, this event has something for everyone. Largo Central Park will be filled with hands-on games, discovery stations and play environments promoting the importance of open play and creativity. Limited on-site parking available. 11:00am-3:00pm.


Children ages 4-11 can discover the creative world of Dali through games, puzzles and arts + crafts activities which educate and encourage family interaction. Cost is free. 12:00-2:30pm.

St. Pete Indie Flea at Green Bench Brewing Co.

Join Indie Flea for the last Street Market of the season at Green Bench Brewing Co! You will find 100+ artisans and vendors, food trucks, mobile shops, guest Dj +more! Family and pet-friendly! 12:00-4:00pm.

Matilda the Musical at Catherine A. Hickman Theater

St. Pete Music, Acting, and Dance presents the story of an extraordinary girl who, armed with a vivid imagination and a sharp mind, dares to take a stand and change her own destiny. The cast of 33 talented kids ages 10-15 bring to life the story of Matilda that revels in the anarchy of childhood, the power of imagination and the inspiring story of a girl who dreams of a better life. St. Pete M.A.D. is proud to be the first community theater in the Tampa Bay Area to bring this story to the stage. The high energy dance numbers and catchy songs will delight children and adults. 2:30pm & 6:00pm.


Glow in the Park 5K at North Straub Park

Healthy St. Pete invites your whole family to Glow in the Park for the 3rd Annual Fit City 5K + 1 Mile! Be sure to wear your favorite glow products or costume to this family friendly event to help "Shine a Light on Health" in the Sunshine City! Join in the 5K, 1-mile race, or Sunshine City Kids Dash (free for kids ages 1 to 6 with adult registration) and stay for a Family Wellness Zone, family-friendly glow activities, and more! Tampa Bay Rowdies at Al Lang Stadium

See the Rowdies take on Hartford Athletic at Al Lang Stadium! Kickoff is at 7:30pm. 7:30pm.

Sunday, April 7th


Sensory Sensitive Sunday at Chuck E. Cheese's

Chuck E. Cheese's offers a sensory-friendly experience on the first Sunday of every month, opening stores two hours before normal opening time. Sensory Sensory events include a trained and caring staff that work to ensure each guest has a fun-filled visit. 9:00-11:00am.


Toddlerdega Easter Egg Hunt at Pro Karting Experience

This event is for mini drivers ages 2-6 or Power Wheel size drivers. Pro Karting Experience supplies the race track, you supply the driver and the vehicle. $5 Pit Pass, Per Driver. $20 for Power Wheel Rental/Pit Pass, first come first serve basis. PKE will also host their first ever Easter Egg Hunt, with visits from the Easter Bunny throughout the event. 9:00-11:00am.

Have a clay date with your little bunnies at Practically Pikasso! Participants will read an Easter Bunny story, then create bunnies out of clay. This clay workshop is recommended for ages 5 and up. $16/first artist, $12/each additional artist. 11:00am-12:00pm.


Family Yoga Class at Peace of Yoga

Kidding Around Yoga Classes with Desiree utilize yoga poses creatively tucked into partner yoga, games and activities, original music, stories and more. This yoga class is specifically designed for kids ages 2 & up. Donations accepted. 11:30am-12:30pm.


Sundays at the Morean Center for Clay

Sundays @ The Morean is a free family drop-in clay play session hosted by the Morean Center for Clay. Clay, tools and working tables provided, please bring your imagination. This session is open to all families with children ages 3 & up. 1:00-3:00pm.


SPARK Lab at St. Petersburg Main LibraryCreate & learn with activities for children in 3rd - 5th grade that focus on S.T.R.E.A.M. (Science, Technology, Reading, Engineering, Arts, and Math). 2:30-3:30pm.
