Weekend Guide: March 6 - 8

A list of kid-friendly events in St. Petersburg, Florida.

We'll be losing an hour when we spring forward this Sunday, so make the most of the shortened weekend at any of these fun events and activities for families in St. Petersburg and the surrounding area.


Friday, March 6th


Open Gym at Bayside Sports Academy

Open Gym is open to children ages 6 & under every Friday. $8/child. 9:00-11:00am.


Babytime at Gulfport Public Library

If you have little ones under 2 years old, please join Gulfport Public Library for Babytime. There will be songs, books, lap bounce rhymes, and the opportunity to meet other caregivers with infants and young toddlers. Older siblings are also welcome. 10:00-10:30am.


Rhea Lana's of St. Petersburg is hosting a family shopping event! Get the entire family set for all things spring and summer. See the full schedule here. 10:00am-7:00pm.



Toddler Early Literacy Program at St. Petersburg Main Library

Come join the main library for storytime featuring movement, music, and fun with rhymes, stories, and puppets! For children ages 1 - 3 with a caregiver. 10:15am & 11:00am.


James Playdate at The James Museum

The James Museum welcomes the youngest learners and their caregivers on the first Friday of every month. Grab your stroller and come for a morning filled with art, touchable objects, stories, songs, and a chance to connect with other adults. Each month brings a new theme and fun ways to explore through creative play. Ages 0–3 with an adult. Space is limited; reservations recommended. Included with admission; free for members.10:30-11:30am.


After School Adventures at Barbara S. Ponce Library

Join Barbara S. Ponce Library after school for fun and exciting drop-in activities. Get hands-on and explore and learn by making art, playing games, doing science experiments, building fantastic creations, and investigating new worlds through books! Grades K & up. 3:30-4:30pm.


S.T.R.E.A.M. Club at Childs Park Library

Explore Science, Technology, Reading, Engineering, Arts, and Math at Childs Park Library's S.T.R.E.A.M. Club. Join in for hands-on science experiments, coding, stories, and more!For children grades 3 - 5. 4:15-5:00pm.


Movies in the Park at Largo Central Park

Movies in the Park is back for spring and better than ever! This time around, Largo Recreation will have fun activities you can do with your family themed around the week's movie, Abominable. There will also be yard games available to play, so join in before the movie starts. This event is free and open to the public. 6:00-9:00pm.


Kid's Night Out at Romp N Roll

Treat your kids ages 2 to 5 and yourself to a fun night out! Parents get an evening to themselves while the children get to run, play, dance, and have fun with energetic instructors. A pizza party dinner and bubble dance party are included. Children do not need to be potty-trained. $25/member, $30/non-member (sibling discount available). 6:00-9:00pm.



Friday Night Shuffle at St. Petersburg Shuffleboard Club

Friday nights are free and open to the public at the St. Petersburg Shuffleboard Club! Bring your own food and beverages and enjoy the courts. 7:00-10:00pm.


Winter Skies at SPC Planetarium and Observatory

The cool winter nights offer some of the best stargazing of the year, with the great hunter Orion dominating the evening sky. Stop by and view the Great Orion Nebula, the Pleiades star cluster, and brilliant Venus with SPC's rooftop telescopes. Children ages 5 & up are welcome to attend the planetarium show. 7:00pm & 8:15pm.


Saturday, March 7th


Bird Walk at Boyd Hill Nature Preserve

Look for birds on a guided hike led by expert birders. Binoculars are available for loan. Free, all ages. 8:00am.


Navigating Nature at Boyd Hill Nature Preserve

Navigating Nature, sponsored by the St. Petersburg Audubon Society, is a free camp for kids in grades 4 through 8. Campers are given the opportunity to experience Nature up-close-and-personal through a variety of activities including nature walks, animal encounters, crafts, and hands-on science. 8:30-11:30am.


Weedon Walkabout at Weedon Island Preserve

Join Weedon Island for a guided hike through the mangrove and upland ecosystems of Weedon Island Preserve. Learn about the coastal environment, native wildlife, and early history of this land. All ages are welcome, but children younger than 6 years old may find this hike challenging. 9:00-11:00am.


Kids Workshop at The Home Depot

Set out on an adventure with your child in this Binoculars Workshop. Kids develop hands-on skills by gluing, hammering and more. With help from parents and Store Associates, your child will create their own pair of binoculars to take home. All Kids Workshop attendees must be accompanied by a parent or adult at all times. All kids get to keep their craft, receive a free certificate of achievement, a Workshop Apron, and a commemorative pin while supplies last. 9:00am-12:00pm.


Saturday Morning Market at Williams Park

St. Petersburg's Saturday Morning Market moves to Williams Park this weekend only Due due to Grand Prix preparations. There will be no market next Saturday, March 14; the market returns to Al Lang Stadium on March 21. 9:00am-2:00pm.


Join Sky Zone's Winter Wonderland! Cost is $18 per child with free accompanying adults.9:30-11:00am.


Sensory Friendly Film at Cobb Tyrone Luxury 10

Sensory Friendly showings provide families with varying abilities the opportunity to enjoy a family friendly film where kids can be kids in a safe and accepting environment. The auditorium is made more comfortable by brighter lights and the sound level is turned down. This month's movie is "Onward." 10:00am.


How to Catch a Leprechaun at Practically Pikasso

Join Practically Pikasso for a reading of "How To Catch A Leprechaun" followed by pottery painting. Choose from a story themed pottery piece, a traditional mug, or salad plate. Cost is $18 per painter when registered in advance. 10:00-11:00am.


Florida Water Festival at England Brothers Park

Free, family fun including face painting, live music, touch-a-trucks, live animals, and educational games about everything water-related can be found at this event. 10:00am-2:00pm.


Alexander Graham Bell Day at Great Explorations Children's Museum

Explore the science of sound with Great Ex as they celebrate Alexander Graham Bell Day. Activities are included with membership/admission. 10:00am-2:00pm.


Open Tree Climb at Pathfinder Outdoor Education

It's time for Pathfinder's monthly tree climb. Anyone ages 6 and up can climb - it's not just for kids! And it's FREE for every climber. Pathfinder's trained facilitators take you through a brief ground school and then you can climb at your own pace into the canopy of a gorgeous live oak. 10:00am-3:00pm.


Pinellas Pioneer Field Day at Pinellas Pioneer Settlement

Join Pinellas Pioneer Settlement for some Pioneer fun! There will be all types of kids’ events and activities. A $5 wristband is good all day for the field events like the 3 legged race, sack race, tug of war, and more. Other ticketed activities will be available including the hayride, butter & candle making, and cakewalks. The Bullet Hole will be open and grilling hotdogs and hamburgers. 10:00am-3:00pm.


Saturdays at the Morean Arts Center

Saturdays @ the Morean is a free family drop-in art studio hosted by the Morean Arts Center. Art activities are geared toward children ages 5 to 10. 10:00am-12:30pm & 1:00-3:30pm.

Largo Central Railroad at Largo Central Park

Join Largo Central Railroad for a ride around beautiful Largo Central Park on the miniature railroad.  The accurately modeled scale locomotives pull you and your family along a mile-long loop through great scenery, the spooky tunnel, and the waterfall pond.  Fun for all ages! 10:00am-4:00pm.


Edible Wilds Walk at Boyd Hill Nature Preserve

Explore edible plants and learn what plants to avoid on this guided hike. $3/adult, $1.50/child. 11:00am.


Little Surrealists Tour at The Dali Museum

Kids ages 4-11 are invited to bring their families on a special 1-hour Museum tour. Free with museum admission. 11:00am-12:00pm.


Storytime at Barnes & Noble

Join Barnes & Noble for a storytime and activities featuring "How to Catch a Dinosaur" and "How to Catch a Unicorn." 11:00am-12:00pm.


One day, THREE great events. Playing Unplugged and Touch-a-Truck are sure to bring a smile to your face. From climbing into big trucks to playing with several unplugged activities, this event has something for everyone. Horn free hour is back from 11am-12pm this year for those people sensitive to loud noises. This event will also join with Suncoast Osteopathic Foundation's Spring Fling Event, to bring you more knowledge and help you lead a healthy lifestyle. 11:00am-3:00pm.


DillyDally with Dali at The Dali Museum

Children ages 4-11 can discover the creative world of Dalí through games, puzzles and arts + crafts activities that educate and encourage family interaction. DillyDally with Dalí takes place under the direction of the Museum’s Education Programs Associate in the 1st floor Stavros Education Center. 12:00-2:30pm.


March Street Faire at Green Bench Brewing Co.

Join Indie Flea for the March Street Faire at its flagship location. The market is at Green Bench Brewing Co. every 1st Saturday of the month and always free to attend. You will find 100+ artisans and vendors, food trucks, mobile shops, Hello Darlin' Records, and more. 12:00-4:00pm.


Follow the Leader Painting at Gulfport Public Library

Join Gulfport Public Library for a follow the leader painting inspired by St. Patrick's Day. Kids in grades K-5 will paint a beautiful rainbow using acrylic paint, brushes, and a few household items. Materials are limited, registration is required. 2:00-3:00pm.


Family Movie Night at Euclid-St. Paul's Neighborhood

Join Euclid-St. Paul's Neighborhood Association on the 17th Terrace North green space across from St. Paul's parking lot for a family fun movie night under the stars! Bring your own blankets and chairs for seating. Hotdogs, chips, popcorn, candy, and drinks will be available for purchase. Admission is a suggested donation of $2 per person or $5 per family. All proceeds benefit ESPNA's 2020 charity, Charlies Champs. 6:30-9:30pm.


Family Night Hike at Boyd Hill Nature Preserve

Join preserve rangers for the most popular guided hike. Explore the preserve after hours in a small group setting. Look for alligators, listen for bats, and search for scorpions. $5/adult, $3.50/child. 7:30pm.


Sunday, March 8th


Aviary Tour at Boyd Hill Nature Preserve

Get a behind-the-scenes look to see how Boyd Hill runs the Birds of Prey program. Have an up-close encounter with the bird of the month, the Northern Crested Caracara. $3/adult, $1.50/child. 10:00am.


Family Yoga Class at Peace of Yoga

Kidding Around Yoga Classes with Desiree utilize yoga poses creatively tucked into partner yoga, games and activities, original music, stories and more. This yoga class is specifically designed for kids (2 and older), but moms, dads, grandparents, and other caregivers are welcome! Donations accepted. 10:00-11:00am.


Great Connections at Great Explorations Children's Museum

Great Explorations Children’s Museum will open early for children with special needs and their families to enjoy Great Connections, a monthly sensory-friendly event. Great Explorations will close to the public, offer discounted admission, and provide a “cool down” room for families who need to take a break. $5 per person or free for members. 10:00am-12:00pm.


Corey Avenue Sunday Market at St. Pete Beach

Find this market located on Corey Avenue in St. Pete Beach. This market hosts 70+ local vendors selling local and conventional produce, plants, herbs, raw honey, take-home foods, artisan products, fresh baked goods, lunch bites, local art, handcrafts, and more! Fun for all ages and dog-friendly. 10:00am-2:00pm.

St. Printersburg at Calusa Commons

Join Print St. Pete for the second annual St. Printersburg, an inky celebration of printmaking in the beautiful sunshine city of St. Pete, FL. Organized by PRINT ST. PETE Community Letterpress and Calusa Press Co., St. Printersburg is a one-day event, including a printers fair, swap meet, presentations, and hands-on printing demonstrations of all kinds. 11:00am-3:00pm.


Sundays at the Morean Center for Clay

Sundays @ The Morean is a free family drop-in Clay Play Session hosted by the Morean Center for Clay. Clay, tools and working tables provided, please bring your imagination. This session is open to all families with children (not recommended for children under 3 years old). 1:00-3:00pm.


2nd Sunday at Tampa Bay Turners

Join Tampa Bay Turners every second Sunday of the month for open gym (ages 4 & under) and swim (all ages). Cost is $10/family. 3:00-5:00pm.


Chess Club at Barbara S. Ponce Public Library

Does your K-12 grader enjoy playing chess? Or are they interested in learning the game? If so, join the library's Chess Club, run by teen volunteers. Get ready to learn the game or put your skills to the test. 6:30-7:30pm.
