Now that the first-day-of-school jitters are behind us, let's have some fun! We've rounded up the best family-friendly events happening around St. Petersburg this weekend and are sharing them below. Click the links for more information.

Friday, August 16th


Open Gym at Bayside Sports Academy

Open Gym is open to children ages 6 & under every Friday. $8/child. 9:00-11:00am.


Preschool Story Time at Gulf Beaches Public Library

Join Gulf Beaches Public Library for songs, stories, and crafts with a "School" theme. 10:30am.


Dog Man, Unleashed at Largo Public Library

With the head of a dog and the body of a human, this heroic hound has a real nose for justice. Who is this hero? That’s right…it’s Dog Man! In honor of the release of the 7th book in the Dog Man series, join Largo Public Library for some crafts, games, prizes, and more! Ages 5 to 12. 4:00-5:00pm.


Tater Tot Throw Down at Albert Whitted Park

** RESCHEDULED FOR FRIDAY, 8/23 ** Come hungry to this tater tot-themed food truck rally presented by Gulf to Bay Food Truck Association. All trucks will serve up tater tot dishes as well as their normal cuisine. Also enjoy live entertainment, vendors, adult beverages, Albert Whitted playground, and fun for the whole family. FREE admisssion! 6:00-11:00pm.


Family Open Paint at Nook & Cranny

Pop-in and paint this Friday night at Nook & Cranny! This is NOT an instructor-led workshop. While there will be staff on hand to cheer you along, you will be required to guide yourself. It's recommended that you attend a minimum of 3 regular workshops before attending an Open Paint. 6:00-9:00pm.


Kid's Night Out at Romp N Roll

Treat your kids ages 2 to 5 and yourself to a fun night out! Parents get an evening to themselves while the children get to run, play, dance, and have fun with energetic instructors. A pizza party dinner and bubble dance party are included. Children do not need to be potty-trained. $25/member, $30/non-member (sibling discount available). 6:00-9:00pm.


Friday Night Shuffle at St. Petersburg Shuffleboard Club

**CANCELED** Friday nights are free and open to the public at the St. Petersburg Shuffleboard Club! Bring your own food and beverages and enjoy the courts. 7:00-10:00pm.


Tampa Bay Rays at Tropicana Field

See the Rays take on the Detroit Tigers at home! Don't forget, it's $7.11 ticket night on Fridays. Stop by any participating 7-Eleven to pick up your discounted voucher. 7:10pm.


Saturday, August 17th


Join St. Pete Parks & Recreation for the 71st Annual Dennis Crenshaw Memorial Fish-A-Thon at Jorgensen Lake located behind the St. Pete Main Library. Registration opens at 9am, and the free Fish-A-Thon begins at 9:30am. Categories include youth, teen, and adult. Poles and bait provided! 9:00-11:30am.


Saturday Morning Market at Williams Park

Join the Saturday Morning Market for the Williams Park Summer Market! There will be live music and vendors with fresh produce, read-to-eat foods, drinks, crafts, art, and more! This event will run every Saturday from June 1st until August 31st. 9:00am-1:00pm.


Come meet, greet, and jump with Woody, Buzz, and Mr. Potato Head! Tickets are $16 per child with free accompanying adults. 9:30-11:00am.


Wildflower Walk at Boyd Hill Nature Preserve

Learn more about what is blooming this month on this ranger-guided walk highlighting native wildflowers along the trails. $3/adult, $1.50/child. 9:30am.


Kidding Around Yoga at the Museum of Fine Arts

The Kidding Around Yoga system utilizes the yoga poses or asanas creatively tucked into partner yoga, games and activities, original music, stories and more. The class is specifically designed for kids ages 3 & up – families welcome. Cost is $5 per person and includes admission to the MFA Collection galleries. 10:00-11:00am.


Sensory Friendly Film at Cobb Tyrone Luxury 10

Sensory Friendly showings provide families with varying abilities the opportunity to enjoy a family-friendly film where kids can be in a safe and accepting environment. The Angry Birds Movie 2 begins at 10am. 10:00am.


Clear the Shelters at Friends of Strays Animal Shelter

For one day only, Friends of Strays will be waiving adoption fees on all homeless pets, meaning that every single kitten, puppy, cat and dog can go home at no cost to you! So if you’re thinking of bringing home a new furry friend, this is the day to do it. Together we can Clear the Shelters! 10:00am-6:00pm.


Babywearing 101 at The Littlest Trunk

Join consultant Alison Brett of Snug Bug Babywearing to learn about babywearing and all its benefits. Bring your own carrier or borrow one for hands-on fitting. Cost is $5. 10:30am-12:00pm.


Little Surrealists Tour at The Dali Museum

Kids ages 4-11 are invited to bring their families on a special one-hour Museum tour. Free with museum admission. 11:00am-12:00pm.


Storytime at Barnes & Noble

Join Barnes & Noble for a storytime and activities featuring "The Color Monster." 11:00am-12:00pm.


What happens when you combine string, cardboard, and color…you get Art in Motion! Come and make your own personalized fidget spinner and learn the mechanics of motion with your family. Cost is free for members and children ages 10 & under; general admission for all others. 11:00am-2:00pm.


Make & Take at the Museum of Fine Arts

Create your own masterpiece inspired by works in the MFA's collection and special exhibitions. Supplies are included. Recommended for ages 5 and older, but entire families are encouraged to participate. Free with museum admission. 11:00am-2:00pm.


Children ages 4-11 can discover the creative world of Dali through games, puzzles and arts + crafts activities which educate and encourage family interaction. Cost is free. 12:00-2:30pm.


Creature Feature at Boyd Hill Nature Preserve

Live animal encounter! Learn interesting facts about a program animal featured at Boyd Hill Nature Preserve every Saturday and Sunday. 2:00pm.


Tampa Bay Rays at Tropicana Field

Cheer on the Rays as they play the Detroit Tigers at home. All attendees will take home a Willy Adames bobblehead (while supplies last). 6:10pm.


Sunday, August 18th


Family Yoga Class at Peace of Yoga

Kidding Around Yoga Classes with Desiree utilize yoga poses creatively tucked into partner yoga, games and activities, original music, stories and more. This yoga class is specifically designed for kids (2 and older), but moms, dads, grandparents and other caregivers are welcome! Donations accepted. 10:00-11:00am.


Tampa Bay Rays at Tropicana Field

Every Sunday home game is Rays Family Fun Day at the Trop! See the Rays play the Detroit Tigers, and all kids ages 14 & under get a Raymond bendable keychain (while supplies last). 1:10pm.


Corey Avenue Sunday Market at St. Pete Beach

This St. Pete Beach market located on Corey Avenue hosts 70+ local vendors selling local and conventional produce, plants, herbs, raw honey, take home foods, artisan products, fresh baked goods, lunch bites, local art, hand crafts and more! Fun for all ages and dog-friendly. 10:00am-2:00pm.


Bird of Prey Encounter at Boyd Hill Nature Preserve

Join Boyd Hill for a 30 minute bird of prey show every Sunday! Get an up close look at a beautiful avian ambassador and learn how you can help birds of prey. Included with preserve admission. 10:00am.


Baby & Me Storytime at Barnes & Noble

Introducing Barnes & Noble's new Baby & Me Storytime for caregivers and children 0-24 months old. Join in to read a book and participate in activities featuring sensory growth for your little ones. Plus, get a free Starbucks tall, hot or iced coffee (Café stores only). 11:00am.


Chess Club at Barbara S. Ponce Public Library

Does your K-12 grader enjoy playing chess? Are they interested in learning the game? If so, join the library for Chess Club to learn the game or put their skills to the test! This program is run by teen volunteers. Registration required. Stop by or call Youth Services at 727-369-0664 to register. 1:30-2:30pm.

Reading All Summer19 at cultured books

Beat the summer slide by joining cultured books for the Summer19 Book Club! The whole family is encouraged to participate. If you're little one isn't at an independent reading level, no problem! All selections are fun and engaging for reading aloud. 3:00-4:00pm.
