Saturdays at the Morean Arts Center

Another fantastic weekend is here, and there are so many great things to do in and around the Sunshine City. Read on for the best St. Pete family-friendly events.

Friday, August 23rd


Open Gym at Bayside Sports Academy

Open Gym is open to children ages 6 & under every Friday. $8/child. 9:00-11:00am.


Terrific Tots at Great Explorations Children's Museum

On Wednesday and Friday mornings while Pinellas County Schools are in and before Great Ex opens to the public, members are invited to join in for songs, movement, art and story time in Great Beginnings at the museum! Terrific Tots is a unique bonding experience for children ages 1-3 and their caregivers. This program is FREE an available for members only. 9:30am.


Bring your little one to Sky Zone to jump with Buzz and Woody! Cost is $10 per child with free accompanying adults. 9:30-11:00am.


Preschool Story Time at Gulf Beaches Public Library

Join Gulf Beaches Public Library for songs, stories, and crafts with a "Picnic" theme. 10:30am.


Afternoons @ the Library at Barbara S. Ponce Public Library

Join the library after school for fun and exciting drop-in activities. Get hands-on and explore and learn by making art, playing games, doing science experiments, building fantastic creations, and investigating new worlds through books! Grades K & up. 3:30-4:30pm.


Game Zone at Largo Public Library

Join the library and learn some new moves using Wii Dance games, or relax and play some board games with friends. Ages 6 to 12. 4:00-5:00pm.


Tater Tot Throw Down at Albert Whitted Park

Come hungry to this tater tot-themed food truck rally presented by Gulf to Bay Food Truck Association. All trucks will serve up tater tot dishes as well as their normal cuisine. Also enjoy live entertainment, vendors, adult beverages, Albert Whitted playground, and fun for the whole family. FREE admisssion! 6:00-11:00pm.


Kid's Night Out at Romp N Roll

Treat your kids ages 2 to 5 and yourself to a fun night out! Parents get an evening to themselves while the children get to run, play, dance, and have fun with energetic instructors. A pizza party dinner and bubble dance party are included. Children do not need to be potty-trained. $25/member, $30/non-member (sibling discount available). 6:00-9:00pm.


"Summer Nights" at SPC Planetarium and Observatory

Explore the stars without trekking far from home, for a price that's out of this world: free! The planetarium offers two free public shows on Friday nights at 7pm and 8:15pm when the college is in session. Shows are hosted by resident astronomer Dr. Craig Joseph and feature live narration with images displayed by computer-controlled projectors. First-come, first-served seating; ages 5 & up. 7:00pm & 8:15pm.


Friday Night Shuffle at St. Petersburg Shuffleboard Club

Friday nights are free and open to the public at the St. Petersburg Shuffleboard Club! Bring your own food and beverages and enjoy the courts. 7:00-10:00pm.


Cinema on the Sand at Upham Beach (St. Pete Beach)

Come out and enjoy a night under the stars while watching "The Meg" being shown from a barge! You can float and watch the movie or bring a blanket and relax on the sand. The movies are free to attend and Paradise Grille will be providing food and beverages for purchase. All movies start at 8pm. 8:00-10:00pm.


Saturday, August 24th


Weedon Walkabout at Weedon Island Preserve

Join in for a guided hike through the mangrove and upland ecosystems of Weedon Island Preserve. Learn about the coastal environment, native wildlife, and early history of the Preserve. This hike may be up to 2 miles (round trip). All ages are welcome but children younger than 6 years old may find this hike challenging. 9:00-11:00am.


Saturday Morning Market at Williams Park

Join the Saturday Morning Market for the Williams Park Summer Market! There will be live music and vendors with fresh produce, read-to-eat foods, drinks, crafts, art, and more! This event will run every Saturday from June 1st until August 31st. 9:00am-1:00pm.


Come meet, greet, and jump with Frozen characters and join in the snowball fight! Tickets are $14 per child with free accompanying adults. 9:30-11:00am.


Saturdays at the Morean Arts Center

Saturdays @ the Morean is a free family drop-in art studio hosted by the Morean Arts Center. Art activities are geared toward children ages 5 to 10. 10:00am-12:30pm & 1:00-3:30pm.


Tie-Dye Time at The Wonder Studio

What better way to celebrate “Back to Studio” than to make your own Tie-Dye t-shirts?! Your child can bring an old (or new) t-shirt and learn the beauty of fabric arts. Painting with school buses, exploring the Wonder Studio Worms, and marbleizing paper will be available along with the Water Lab. Cost is $35. 10:00am-12:00pm.


How to Catch a Unicorn at Practically Pikasso

A magical unicorn party for guests of all ages! Participants will be reading “How To Catch A Unicorn” and painting a magical unicorn pottery piece. There will also be special “Fairy Dust” paint to add shimmer to your unicorn and a few other magical surprises! $20/painter in advance or $24 for walk-ins. 10:30am-12:00pm.


Building Buddies at Barbara S. Ponce Public Library

Bring your favorite Building Buddy to the library for lots of fun STEM activities. Together kids ages 5 & under will explore and build with wooden blocks, magna tiles, duplos, and more! Each participant will take home their own set of colorful velcro sticks for more constructive learning at home. Registration required. 10:30-11:30am.


Little Surrealists Tour at The Dali Museum

Kids ages 4-11 are invited to bring their families on a special one-hour Museum tour. Free with museum admission. 11:00am-12:00pm.


Storytime at Barnes & Noble

Join Barnes & Noble for a storytime and activities celebrating the 30th anniversary of "Where's Waldo" and featuring "Dog Breath," a hilarious new book from Dav Pilkey. 11:00am-12:00pm.


Cinema at the Museum of Fine Arts

Cinema @ the MFA presents: Kubo and the Two Strings, a visually-stunning stop-motion animated film about a young origami storyteller. Prior to the feature film is the premiere of Cranes, a short film by local teen filmmaker Alex Archipov, with a brief Q&A afterward. Origami folding activities — samurai hats and paper cranes – will be included as part of the event. Films are suitable for ages 9 and above; activities are appropriate for ages 3 – 103. Free with museum admission. 11:00am-1:30pm.


Alligator Walk at Boyd Hill Nature Preserve

Learn about the American alligator, Florida’s state reptile, which calls our wetlands home on this all-ages walk. $3/adult, $1.50/child. 11:30am.


Children ages 4-11 can discover the creative world of Dali through games, puzzles and arts + crafts activities which educate and encourage family interaction. Cost is free. 12:00-2:30pm.


Open House at Noisemakers

Stop by Noisemakers, meet the teachers, get a free mini-lesson, listen to current students play, and get a free lesson when you sign up that day! 12:00-5:00pm.


Back to School Crafts at Gulfport Public Library

If your child is in grades K-5, then join Gulfport Public Library for Back to School Crafts! Participants will make bookmarks, apple magnets, and pencil toppers. 1:00-3:30pm.


Creature Feature at Boyd Hill Nature Preserve

Live animal encounter! Learn interesting facts about a program animal featured at Boyd Hill Nature Preserve every Saturday and Sunday. 2:00pm.


Tinkergarten Trial Class at Crescent Lake Park

At Tinkergarten, families meet outdoors to connect and learn through play. In this free trial class, Tinkergarten Leader, Elise Pickett, will facilitate an expert-designed play scenario, allowing children of various ages and needs to explore, problem solve, communicate, collaborate, and create together. Parents and caregivers learn, too, as we’ll share insight into your child’s development. Ages 18 months - 8 years. 5:00-6:15pm.


Tampa Bay Rowdies at Al Lang Stadium

Cheer on the Rowdies as they take on the Memphis 901 FC at home! All fans will take home a Georgi Hristov bobblehead (while supplies last). 7:30pm.


Sunday, August 25th


Family Yoga Class at Peace of Yoga

Kidding Around Yoga Classes with Desiree utilize yoga poses creatively tucked into partner yoga, games and activities, original music, stories and more. This yoga class is specifically designed for kids (2 and older), but moms, dads, grandparents and other caregivers are welcome! Donations accepted. 10:00-11:00am.


BYOBaby and Flow at The Body Electric Yoga Company

Calling all parentals -- dedicate some time to yourself without having to call the babysitter. Join Abby for BYOBaby and Flow, a session for folks and babes with a mix of baby-wearing, baby-chilling and yoga-flowing all in one. Appropriate for wearable babies, crawlers, and early-walkers. Cost is $20. 11:00am-12:15pm.


Corey Avenue Sunday Market at St. Pete Beach

This St. Pete Beach market located on Corey Avenue hosts 70+ local vendors selling local and conventional produce, plants, herbs, raw honey, take home foods, artisan products, fresh baked goods, lunch bites, local art, hand crafts and more! Fun for all ages and dog-friendly. 10:00am-2:00pm.


Bird of Prey Encounter at Boyd Hill Nature Preserve

Join Boyd Hill for a 30 minute bird of prey show every Sunday! Get an up close look at a beautiful avian ambassador and learn how you can help birds of prey. Included with preserve admission. 10:00am.


Baby & Me Storytime at Barnes & Noble

Introducing Barnes & Noble's new Baby & Me Storytime for caregivers and children 0-24 months old. Join in to read a book and participate in activities featuring sensory growth for your little ones. Plus, get a free Starbucks tall, hot or iced coffee (Café stores only). 11:00am.


Indie Flea Summer Market at St. Pete Shuffle

Join Indie Flea for a special summer pop up market series at St Pete Shuffleboard Club featuring 60+ vendors and mobile shops, shuffleboard, brunch and cocktails! This is a free, indoor event. 12:00-4:00pm.


Sundays at the Morean Center for Clay

Sundays @ The Morean is a free family drop-in Clay Play Session hosted by the Morean Center for Clay. Clay, tools and working tables provided, please bring your imagination. This session is open to all families with children (not recommended for children under 3 years old). 1:00-3:00pm.


Chess Club at Barbara S. Ponce Public Library

Does your K-12 grader enjoy playing chess? Are they interested in learning the game? If so, join the library for Chess Club to learn the game or put their skills to the test! This program is run by teen volunteers. Registration required. Stop by or call Youth Services at 727-369-0664 to register. 1:30-2:30pm.
