It's the last weekend before the first day of school so we're rounding up the best family-friendly events and activities happening around St. Pete this weekend to help you make the most of your summer break. Click the links below for more information.

Friday, August 9th


Open Gym at Bayside Sports Academy

Open Gym is open to children ages 6 & under every Friday. $8/child. 9:00-11:00am.

Itty Bitty Splashtime at Highland Family Aquatic Center

Enjoy companionship of other parents and caregivers while children play together in a safe aquatic environment. Mom’s clubs are welcome. Children not potty trained must wear a vinyl swim diaper under their bathing suit. Vinyl diapers are available for sale at the facility. $1.50/child. 9:45-10:45am.


Preschool Story Time at Gulf Beaches Public Library

Join Gulf Beaches Public Library for songs, stories, and crafts with a "Bedtime and Night" theme. 10:30am.


Healthy St. Pete and Sunshine City Kids are bringing summer fun in the park. Enjoy games, family activities and more, along with FREE lunch for individuals 18 years and younger. Don't forget your yoga mat or towel -- The Studieaux is joining in to lead a fun kids' yoga session! 11:00am-1:00pm.


Summer Movie at Largo Public Library

Get ready for the weekend by enjoying a movie and snack at the library. Today's movie is "The Angry Birds Movie." 2:00-3:30pm.


Back to School Carnival at The Fountains at Boca Ciega Bay

Summer is coming to an end and school is almost back in session, so send the kids off with a Back-to-School Carnival to remember! There will be a dunk tank, pie in the face game, petting farm, pony rides, face painter, balloon artist, and tons of games, food and good fun. Suggested donation is $5 per person or $15 per family. All proceeds benefit Watermark for Kids. 2:00-4:00pm.


Parents Night Out at The Littlest Trunk

Need a kid-free evening? Drop the kids (ages 12m+) at The Littlest Trunk where there will be snacks and refreshments, games, arts, crafts and more! All babysitters are thoroughly screened and have passed all background checks. Cost is $15/child and $10/sibling. 5:00-8:00pm.


Kid's Night Out at Romp N Roll

Treat your kids ages 2 to 5 and yourself to a fun night out! Parents get an evening to themselves while the children get to run, play, dance, and have fun with energetic instructors. A pizza party dinner and bubble dance party are included. Children do not need to be potty-trained. $25/member, $30/non-member (sibling discount available). 6:00-9:00pm.


Friday Night Shuffle at St. Petersburg Shuffleboard Club

Friday nights are free and open to the public at the St. Petersburg Shuffleboard Club! Bring your own food and beverages and enjoy the courts. 7:00-10:00pm.


Cinema on the Sand at Upham Beach

Come out and enjoy a night under the stars while watching a blockbuster hit being shown from a barge by St. Pete Beach Parks & Rec! You can float and watch the movie or bring a blanket and relax on the sand. The movie is free to attend and Paradise Grille will be providing food and beverages for purchase. "Smokey and the Bandit" starts at 8pm. 8:00-10:00pm.


Movie on the Beach at Archibald Beach Park

Join Madeira Beach Recreation for a FREE screening of "Ferris Bueller's Day Off" on the beach! Saltwater Destination will be renting chairs for the movie. Give them a call at 727-743-1143 if you’d like to reserve a spot up close. There will also be a pre-party at The Old Snack Shack, Madeira Beach prior to the movie with Food and Drink specials, live music, and raffle prizes. 8:30-11:30pm.


Saturday, August 10th


Fish Kids at Madeira Beach Recreation Complex

Enjoy one last celebration before the kids go back to school! Activities include a Seawall Tournament open to kids ages 16 & under, vendors, Coast Guard SAR demo, demonstrations, huge raffle, and much more! Weedon Walkabout at Weedon Island Preserve

Join in for a guided hike through the mangrove and upland ecosystems of Weedon Island Preserve. Learn about the coastal environment, native wildlife, and early history of the Preserve. This hike may be up to 2 miles (round trip). All ages are welcome but children younger than 6 years old may find this hike challenging. 9:00-11:00am.


Saturday Morning Market at Williams Park

Join the Saturday Morning Market for the Williams Park Summer Market! There will be live music and vendors with fresh produce, read-to-eat foods, drinks, crafts, art, and more! This event will run every Saturday from June 1st until August 31st. 9:00am-1:00pm.


Come meet, greet, and jump with Doc McStuffins & surprise guests! Tickets are $14 per child with free accompanying adults. 9:30-11:00am.


Thrill the Burg at Ferg's

Join "Thrill The Burg" dance instructors and volunteers to learn the dance to Thriller for Thrill the World 2019 and St. Petersburg's 10 year anniversary dancing Thriller! Lessons are FREE! 9:30-11:00am.


Back-to-School Arts & Crafts Bash at Wagon Wheel Flea Market

Wagon Wheel Flea Market will be hosting a Back-to-School Arts & Crafts Bash for children ages 3 - 10 years old. The Back-to-School Bash will take place at Concession #1 on the D/E building. Bring the kiddos and their creative brains! 10:00am-1:00pm.


Family Garden Yoga at Gulfport Public Library

The whole family is welcome to refresh with Christa in this summer yoga series. Please meet in the Friends Room if weather doesn't permit outdoor session. 10:15-11:15am.


Kidding Around Yoga at Kenwood's Organic Produce

Reduce the back to school jitters with Kidding Around Yoga led by Leah Buttery. This free yoga class is for children ages 5 & up. Don't forget your reusable produce bags to stock up on your back to school fresh produce! 10:30am-1:30pm.


Family Day: Nuts About Nature at The James Museum

Explore the textures, sights, sounds, and smells of the West with this nature inspired Family Day. Join The James Museum in the children’s studio to create your own leaf prints! Family Day features fun with an artsy, western, or wildlife twist! Themed activities include story time, a kid-friendly tour, and an artmaking workshop. Best for ages 3–10; children must be accompanied by an adult. Space is limited. Included with admission; free for members. 10:30am-12:30pm.


Drag Queen Story Hour at Community Cafe

Drag Queen Story Hour (DQSH) is just what it sounds like—drag queens reading stories to children in libraries, schools, and bookstores. DQSH captures the imagination and play of the gender fluidity of childhood and gives kids glamorous, positive, and unabashedly queer role models. In spaces like this, kids are able to see people who defy rigid gender restrictions and imagine a world where people can present as they wish. 11:00am-12:00pm.


Little Surrealists Tour at The Dali Museum

Kids ages 4-11 are invited to bring their families on a special 1-hour Museum tour. Free with museum admission. 11:00am-12:00pm.


Storytime at Barnes & Noble

Join Barnes & Noble for a storytime and activities featuring "Dear Girl," and "Dear Boy,." 11:00am-12:00pm.


Chill by the Grill at The Sanderlin Center

Join The Sanderlin Center for an End of Summer Family Fun Day and BBQ! They'll be serving up FREE lunch, BBQ, and ice pops as well as handing out FREE school supplies and hair cuts. Kids can enjoy the bouncy house, too. 11:00am-1:30pm.


Kickball Kick-Off at Thomas "Jet" Jackson Recreation Center

Join Bee's Learning, Inc. for a kick-off event featuring food, fun and kickball! Sign up for the We Love Books program and get the 2019-20 Literacy Bus schedule in your area. 12:00-2:00pm.


Children ages 4-11 can discover the creative world of Dali through games, puzzles and arts + crafts activities which educate and encourage family interaction. Cost is free. 12:00-2:30pm.


Creature Feature at Boyd Hill Nature Preserve

Live animal encounter! Learn interesting facts about a program animal featured at Boyd Hill Nature Preserve every Saturday and Sunday. 2:00pm.


The Central Arts District, EDGE District, Grand Central District, Warehouse Arts District and downtown Waterfront District unite for the St. Petersburg Second Saturday ArtWalk. Studios and galleries stay open late to welcome visitors from 5-9 pm. Many ArtWalk studios/galleries celebrate the opening of brand new exhibitions during ArtWalk. Discover wonderful surprises, visit your favorite artist or find a new one. The Downtown Looper Trolley is now part of ArtWalk on Second Saturdays taking visitors to all of the galleries in the Waterfront District with stops every 15 minutes. 5:00-9:00pm.


Tampa Bay Rowdies at Al Lang Stadium

Cheer on the Rowdies as they take on the Birmingham Legion FC at home. 7:30pm.


Sunday, August 11th


Family Yoga Class at Peace of Yoga

Kidding Around Yoga Classes with Desiree utilize yoga poses creatively tucked into partner yoga, games and activities, original music, stories and more. This yoga class is specifically designed for kids (2 and older), but moms, dads, grandparents and other caregivers are welcome! Donations accepted. 10:00-11:00am.


Great Connections at Great Explorations Children's Museum

For this event, Great Explorations Children’s Museum will open early for children with special needs and their families to enjoy Great Connections, a sensory-friendly event. Great Explorations will close to the public, offer discounted admission and provide a “cool down” room for families who need to take a break. $5/person or free for members. 10:00am-12:00pm.


Corey Avenue Sunday Market at St. Pete Beach

Find this market located on Corey Avenue in St. Pete Beach. This market hosts 70+ local vendors selling local and conventional produce, plants, herbs, raw honey, take home foods, artisan products, fresh baked goods, lunch bites, local art, hand crafts and more! Fun for all ages and dog-friendly. 10:00am-2:00pm.


Bird of Prey Encounter at Boyd Hill Nature Preserve

Join Boyd Hill for a 30 minute bird of prey show every Sunday! Get an up close look at a beautiful avian ambassador and learn how you can help birds of prey. Included with preserve admission. 10:00am.


Baby & Me Storytime at Barnes & Noble

Introducing Barnes & Noble's new Baby & Me Storytime for caregivers and children 0-24 months old. Join in to read a book and participate in activities featuring sensory growth for your little ones. Plus, get a free Starbucks tall, hot or iced coffee (Café stores only). 11:00am.


Back to School Party at Kenwood's Organic Produce

Kenwood's Organic Produce will be hosting a back-to-school party with Vegan Ray serving up kid-friendly plant-based barbecue, the skunk rescue giving out skunk hugs from 11-1, Elise Pickett from Urban Harvest giving a sample lesson from her new Tinkergarten class from 12-3, fun kids crafts, chair massages, and so much more. 11:00am-5:00pm.


Family Fun Day at St. Pete Beach Aquatic Center

Come and enjoy music, family fun, slides, pool basketball, games, prizes and much more! 12:00-3:00pm.


Creature Feature at Boyd Hill Nature Preserve

Live animal encounter! Learn interesting facts about a program animal featured at Boyd Hill Nature Preserve every Saturday and Sunday. 2:00pm.


2nd Sunday at Tampa Bay Turners

Join Tampa Bay Turners every second Sunday for open gym (ages 4 & under) and swim (all ages). Cost is $10/family. 3:00-5:00pm.


Come and have some fun and get ready for the new school year with a fresh manicure for you and your little bestie!
