Weekend Guide: July 26-28

Just three weekends left until school starts back so we're rounding up the best family-friendly events and activities happening around St. Pete this weekend to help you make the most of your summer break. Click the links below for more information.

Friday, July 26th


Open Gym at Bayside Sports Academy

Open Gym is open to children ages 6 & under every Friday. $8/child. 9:00-11:00am.


Itty Bitty Splashtime at Highland Family Aquatic Center

Enjoy companionship of other parents and caregivers while children play together in a safe aquatic environment. Mom’s clubs are welcome. Children not potty trained must wear a vinyl swim diaper under their bathing suit. Vinyl diapers are available for sale at the facility. $1.50/child. 9:45-10:45am.


Music & Motion at St. Petersburg Main Library

Join the library for literacy programs featuring dance and music for children ages 1-5 with their caregivers. 10:15am and 11:00am.


Preschool Story Time at Gulf Beaches Public Library

Join Gulf Beaches Public Library for songs, stories, and crafts with an "Ocean Animals" theme. 10:30am.


*RESCHEDULED TO FRIDAY, 8/9* - Healthy St. Pete and Sunshine City Kids are bringing summer fun in the park. Enjoy games, family activities and more, along with FREE lunch for individuals 18 years and younger. 11:00am-1:00pm.


A Universe of Stories at Childs Park Recreation Center

Students entering grades K-2 can explore the universe with stories, participation activities, music, games, and crafts. 2:00-3:00pm.


S.T.R.E.A.M. Club at Childs Park Recreation Center

Children in grades 3-5 can explore Science, Technology, Reading, Engineering, Arts, and Math at the library's S.T.R.E.A.M. Club. Join in for hands-on science experiments, coding, stories, and more! 4:00-5:00pm.


Kid's Night Out at Romp N Roll

Treat your kids ages 2 to 5 and yourself to a fun night out! Parents get an evening to themselves while the children get to run, play, dance, and have fun with energetic instructors. A pizza party dinner and bubble dance party are included. Children do not need to be potty-trained. $25/member, $30/non-member (sibling discount available). 6:00-9:00pm.


Flick & Float at Walter Fuller Pool

Flick & Float Movie Night at the Pool is back with new movie nights, happening every Friday starting June 7th. The event is hosted by the City of St. Petersburg's Aquatics Division. "Hotel Transylvania 3" is on the big screen this week. $2/ages 3-12, $3/ages 13 & up. 7:00-10:00pm.


Friday Night Shuffle at St. Petersburg Shuffleboard Club

Friday nights are free and open to the public at the St. Petersburg Shuffleboard Club! Bring your own food and beverages and enjoy the courts. 7:00-10:00pm.


Summer Skies at SPC Planetarium & Observatory

Explore the stars without trekking far from home, for a price that's out of this world: Free. The planetarium offers two free public shows on Friday nights at 7pm and 8:15pm. Shows are hosted by resident astronomer Dr. Craig Joseph and feature live narration with images displayed by computer-controlled projectors. Ages 5 & up only. 7:00pm & 8:15pm.


Cinema on the Sand at Upham Beach

Come out and enjoy a night under the stars while watching "Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse" being shown from a barge! You can float and watch the movie or bring a blanket and relax on the sand. The movie is free to attend, and Paradise Grille will be providing food and beverages for purchase. 8:00-10:00pm.


Moth Night Hike at Boyd Hill Nature Preserve

Join Boyd Hill for a special night hike celebrating the beauty, life cycles, and habitats of moths during National Moth Week 2019! Call the preserve to reserve your spot. $15/adult, $10/children. 8:30-10:00pm.


Saturday, July 27th


Back-to-School Care Fair at Community Health Centers of Pinellas

This annual back-to-school event presented by the Junior League of St. Petersburg will have a street fair and provide FREE medical exams, dental exams and x-rays, school supplies and backpacks, and agency information from community organizations (vendors will be located at the SPC - Midtown Campus next door). 8:00am-12:00pm.

Member Mornings at Great Explorations Children's Museum

On Saturday mornings in June and July, Great Ex opens their doors an hour early for Members only! Enjoy this quiet time on the museum floor as their way of saying thank you for being members and supporting the museum all year long. 9:00-10:00am.


Toddlerdega at Pro Karting Experience

This event is for mini drivers ages 2-6 or Power Wheel-sized drivers. Pro Karting Experience supplies the race track, you supply the driver and the vehicle. $5 pit pass/driver or $20 for Power Wheel rental/pit pass. 9:00-11:00am.


Weedon Walkabout at Weedon Island Preserve

Join in for a guided hike through the mangrove and upland ecosystems of Weedon Island Preserve. Learn about the coastal environment, native wildlife, and early history of the Preserve. This hike may be up to 2 miles (round trip). All ages are welcome but children younger than 6 years old may find this hike challenging. 9:00-11:00am.


Saturday Morning Market at Williams Park

Join the Saturday Morning Market for the Williams Park Summer Market! There will be live music and vendors with fresh produce, read-to-eat foods, drinks, crafts, art, and more! This event will run every Saturday from June 1st until August 31st. 9:00am-1:00pm.


Come meet, greet, and jump with Catboy, Gecko, and Owlette! Tickets are $14 per child with free accompanying adults. 9:30-11:00am.


During this special folding event, students from St. Petersburg's Sister City in Takamatsu, Japan will be at the MFA teaching participants how to fold cranes in several different ways! (Instructional workshops will be held 10am-12pm.) The MFA will supply the folding paper and the instructions. The cranes will be sent to the Children’s Peace Memorial Park in Hiroshima, Japan, to join cranes sent from all around the world. This FAMILY FRIENDLY event will be fun for kids of all ages and is included with admission. 10:00am-2:00pm.


Rollin' Oats is celebrating their 25th anniversary with a summer backyard BBQ food & wine tasting event. Join in at the St. Pete location for live music, kids activities, giveaways and more! 10:00am-2:00pm.


Full STEAM Ahead at Walmart

Gear up for Full STEAM Ahead! This family-friendly event taking place at local Walmart stores is bringing a day of engaging activities that parents and kids will love. Come visit in-store to tie-dye your own shirt and make your own slime or cereal necklace. 10:00am-4:30pm.


Spheres Galactic Bubble Show at Barbara S. Ponce Public Library

Children of all ages are invited to enjoy the magic and amazing bubble art of master performer Blaise Ryndes! 10:30-11:30am.

Little Surrealists Tour at The Dali Museum

Kids ages 4-11 are invited to bring their families on a special 1-hour Museum tour. Free with museum admission. 11:00am-12:00pm.


Storytime at Barnes & Noble

Join Barnes & Noble for a storytime and activities featuring "We Don't Eat Our Classmates." 11:00am-12:00pm.


Alligator Walk at Boyd Hill Nature Preserve

Learn about the American alligator, Florida's state reptile, on this all ages guided walk. $3/adult, $1.50/child. 11:30am.


Children ages 4-11 can discover the creative world of Dali through games, puzzles and arts + crafts activities which educate and encourage family interaction. Cost is free. 12:00-2:30pm.


Children's Author Storytime at Gulfport Public Library

Children's author Skyla Luckey reads her newly published children's book, The Playful World of Weights. 1:00-1:30pm. 


Creature Feature at Boyd Hill Nature Preserve

Live animal encounter! Learn interesting facts about a program animal featured at Boyd Hill Nature Preserve every Saturday and Sunday. 2:00pm.


Mad Science Presents Spin, Pop, Boom at South Community Library

Be amazed when the Mad Scientist creates an extra hand and when he defies gravity. Witness a spectacular Coke-and-Mentos fountain. Don’t miss the finale with an explosion of foam and a confetti blast. This free program is for children of all ages and their caregivers. 2:30-3:30pm.


It's All Fun & Games Festival at St. Pete Side Lot

Come out to the St. Pete Side Lot for live music, games, food, drinks, entertainment and so much more as it's turned into a playground of fun! Bring out the kiddos early, they get their own party of fun starting at 3pm with arts and crafts, a water slide, and more! 3:00-11:00pm.


Sunday, July 28th


Family Yoga Class at Peace of Yoga

Kidding Around Yoga Classes with Desiree utilize yoga poses creatively tucked into partner yoga, games and activities, original music, stories and more. This yoga class is specifically designed for kids (2 and older), but moms, dads, grandparents and other caregivers are welcome! Donations accepted. 10:00-11:00am.


Corey Avenue Sunday Market at St. Pete Beach

Find this market located on Corey Avenue in St. Pete Beach. This market hosts 70+ local vendors selling local and conventional produce, plants, herbs, raw honey, take home foods, artisan products, fresh baked goods, lunch bites, local art, hand crafts and more! Fun for all ages and dog-friendly. 10:00am-2:00pm.


Bird of Prey Talk at Boyd Hill Nature Preserve

Join Boyd Hill for a 30 minute bird of prey show every Sunday! Get an up close look at a beautiful avian ambassador and learn how you can help birds of prey. Included with preserve admission. 10:00am.


Baby & Me Storytime at Barnes & Noble

Introducing Barnes & Noble's new Baby & Me Storytime for caregivers and children 0-24 months old. Join in to read a book and participate in activities featuring sensory growth for your little ones. Plus, get a free Starbucks tall, hot or iced coffee (Café stores only). 11:00am.


Summer Pop Up Series at St. Pete Shuffle

Join Indie Flea for a special summer pop up market series at the St. Pete Shuffleboard Club featuring an Indoor Flea with 60+ vendors and mobile shops, shuffleboard, brunch and cocktails. Always free! 12:00-4:00pm.


BYOBaby & Flow at The Body Electric Yoga Co.

Calling all parentals: dedicate some time to yourself without having to call the babysitter. Join Abby for BYOBaby and Flow: a session for folks and babes, with a mix of baby-wearing, baby-chilling and yoga-flowing all in one. Class structure is loose, so you're free to get up and move around as needed. Appropriate for wearable babies, crawlers, and early-walkers. $20. 11:00am-12:15pm.


Creature Feature at Boyd Hill Nature Preserve

Live animal encounter! Learn interesting facts about a program animal featured at Boyd Hill Nature Preserve every Saturday and Sunday. 2:00pm.


SPARK Lab: DIY Rocketry at St. Petersburg Main Library

Go astronautical. Create straw rockets, balloon rockets, and shoot a rocket out of our air cannon! For children grades 3 - 5. 2:30-3:30pm.
