Weekend Guide: May 24 - 27

Long weekend ahead, folks! Let us do all of the research so you don't have to! Here's our roundup of family-friendly events and things to do with kids this Memorial Day weekend in St. Petersburg, Florida.

St. Petersburg Florida Pools

Friday, May 24th


Open Gym at Bayside Sports Academy

Open Gym is open to children ages 6 & under every Friday. $6/child. 9:00-11:00am.


Preschool Story Time at Gulf Beaches Public Library

Join Gulf Beaches Public Library for songs, stories and crafts with a baby animals theme. 10:30am.


Don't Fry Day at Great Explorations

Celebrate the start of summer and learn about sun and water safety at Great Ex! Community partners St. Pete Fire Rescue and St. Pete City Aquatics Department will be on-site with helpful information about water safety. Dana Callahan from Domino Effect Health will have age-appropriate summer activities and will raffle a SPF protective children’s swimsuit. The Great Ex Education team will facilitate summer activities including UV bracelets, sunscreen science, summer visor making and water play. 1:00-4:00pm.


St. Pete Shuffle at St. Petersburg Shuffleboard Club

Friday nights are free and open to the public at the St. Petersburg Shuffleboard Club! Bring your own food and beverages and enjoy the courts. 7:00-10:00pm.


Saturday, May 25th


Weedon Walkabout at Weedon Island Preserve

Join Weedon Island for a guided hike through the mangrove and upland ecosystems of the preserve. Learn about the coastal environment, native wildlife, and early history of the area. This hike may be up to 2 miles in length (round trip) depending on the trail chosen for the trip. All ages are welcome but children younger than 6 years old may find this hike challenging. 9:00-11:00am.


Saturday Morning Market at Al Lang Stadium

This lively and huge outdoor market is open from October to May in the parking lot of Al Lang Stadium. Live music, a variety of vendors and a strong sense of community make this market the heart of St. Pete. 9:00am-2:00pm.


Join Sky Zone to Infinity and Beyond with Buzz Lightyear and friends! This epic family event will have a character meet, greet, and jump, light breakfast, all things sky zone, and so much more. Cost is $14 per child with a free accompanying adult. 9:30-11:00am.


Saturdays @ the Morean is a free family drop-in art studio hosted by the Morean Arts Center. This Saturday, join in to make robots out of recycled materials. 10:00am-3:30pm.

Co-existing with Florida Coyotes at Weedon Island Preserve

Learn all about the intelligent, adaptive coyote and their often-beneficial food web role from Sensing Nature’s wildlife biologist Jeanne Murphy. Join her in discussing how we can co-exist with coyotes, while avoiding their predatory instincts in our backyards by keeping these opportunistic animals wild and respectful. This program is suitable for ages 8+. Children must be accompanied by an adult. 10:30-11:30am.

Little Surrealists Tour at The Dali Museum

Kids ages 4-11 are invited to bring their families on a special 1-hour museum tour. Free with museum admission. 11:00am-12:00pm.


Storytime at Barnes & Noble

Join Barnes & Noble for a storytime and activities featuring "Aladdin." 11:00am-12:00pm.


Children ages 4-11 can discover the creative world of Dali through games, puzzles and arts + crafts activities which educate and encourage family interaction. Cost is free. 12:00-2:30pm.

Jr. Scientists - Mycologist at Boyd Hill Nature Preserve

Kids ages 7 to 12 are invited to join Boyd Hill to use their scientific observation skills in this new monthly program! Each month will feature a different field of science, a different science experiment or project and each child will get their own field notebook to bring to each program. Drop off program. Preregistration required. Cost is $10. 12:30-2:30pm.

Ocean Commotion at Gulfport Public Library

If your child is in grades K-5, then join Gulfport Public Library for an underwater craft party! Kids can make a jellyfish, starfish, and seahorse and have their photo in the mouth of a shark. 2:00-4:00pm.

Pioneer Night at Pinellas Pioneer Settlement

Kids ages 6 to 13 can enjoy a night of friends, fun, campfire and s’mores, pioneer style! Cost is $20. 6:00-10:00pm.


Tampa Bay Rowdies at Al Lang Stadium

See the Rowdies take on the Swope Park Rangers at home! Kickoff is at 7:30pm.

Sunday, May 26th


Wildflower Walk at Boyd Hill Nature Preserve

A ranger-guided walk highlights native wildflowers along the trails. Learn more about what is blooming this month! Cost is $3/adult or $1.50/child. 9:30am.

Family Yoga Class at Peace of Yoga

Kidding Around Yoga Classes with Desiree utilize yoga poses creatively tucked into partner yoga, games and activities, original music, stories and more. This yoga class is specifically designed for kids ages 2 & up. Donations accepted. 10:00am-11:00pm.


Corey Avenue Sunday Market at St. Pete Beach

This market hosts 70+ local vendors selling local and conventional produce, plants, herbs, raw honey, take home foods, artisan products, fresh baked goods, lunch bites, local art, hand crafts and more! Fun for all ages and dog-friendly. 10:00am-2:00pm.

BYOBaby and Flow at The Body Electric Yoga Company

Calling all parentals: dedicate some time to yourself without having to call the babysitter. Join Abby for BYOBaby and Flow -- a session for folks and babes, with a mix of baby-wearing, baby-chilling and yoga-flowing all in one. Class structure is loose, so you're free to get up and move around as needed. No one expects class to be perfectly quiet, so squeaks and cries are the new norm! 11:00am-12:15pm.


Sundays at the Morean Center for Clay

Sundays @ The Morean is a FREE family drop-in Clay Play Session hosted by the Morean Center for Clay. Clay, tools and working tables provided, please bring your imagination. This session is open to all families with children (not recommended for children under 3 years old). 1:00-3:00pm.


Monday, May 27th


Poolside Picnic at Highland Family Aquatic Center

Bring the family, a blanket and your own picnic basket by the pool! Splash's Snack Bar will be open. Prices are for groups of up to five people: $12 members/$24 non-members. This event is open to all ages. 10:00am-2:00pm.


$1 Splash Day at City of St. Petersburg Pools

Make a splash this summer with $1 Splash Days at all City of St. Petersburg pools! Visit StPeteParksRec.org/pools to find a pool near you. 11:00am-4:00pm.


Tampa Bay Rays at Tropicana Field

See the Rays play the Toronto Blue Jays at home this Memorial Day. 1:10pm.


Memorial Day Ceremony at Largo Central Park

Honor our fallen Veterans with the City of Largo at beautiful Largo Central Park's Court of Honor. The City will pay respects through music, presentations and words by Keynote speaker, Rev. Fr. Robert "Bob" Swick. The event is free and open to the public. 7:00-8:00pm.
