Start making plans for the weekend! There are LOTS of fun things to do around St. Petersburg!

The first weekend of the month is always full, and May is no exception. We're listing our favorite events below to make it easy for you to spend some QT with your family. Of course, you can always find even more things to do on our full calendar. May the FUN be with you!

Friday, May 3rd


Open Gym at Bayside Sports Academy

Open Gym is open to children ages 6 & under every Friday. $6/child. 9:00-11:00am.


Terrific Tots at Great Explorations

This members-only program is offered when school is in session for children ages 1-3 and a caregiver. Join the museum for songs and movement, story time, an art or craft exploration and community time for tots and their adults! 9:30-10:00am.


Join Baby Boot Camp St Pete at the Sundial every First Friday for a FREE class open to all moms. Please register in advance and fill out the waiver at www.BabyBootCamp.com. 9:30-10:30am.

Toddler Early Literacy Program at St. Petersburg Main Library

Join the library for story time featuring movement, music and fun with rhymes, stories, and puppets! For children ages 1 - 3 with a caregiver. 10:15am and 11:00am.

Preschool Story Time at Gulf Beaches Public Library

Preschool-aged children can enjoy songs, stories and crafts with a "Letter C" theme! 10:30am.


Master Builders at Barbara S. Ponce Public Library

Put your engineering skills to the test every Friday! Build with LEGO bricks, KEVA planks and other fun materials. No registration required; grades K & up. 3:30-4:30pm.

Old Salt Kids Fishing Slam at Madeira Beach Recreation Complex

Old Salt is hosting 500 local kids to fish the seawall in Madeira Beach at the 2019 Kids Fishing Slam. The Slam is held on the 2nd night of the Spring King of the Beach Kingfish Tournament. Friday is family night and a huge community party. Old Salt provides hooks, weights, bait, volunteers and prizes so all you need to bring is your kid. Children's Book Swap at Back Door Theater

Free event! Bring your gently used children's books and swap them! Open to all, free to attend and participate. Any unclaimed books will be donated to Gulfport Public Library. Seussical, Jr. will be performed by the children's theater after every swap,. Seussical, Jr. tickets are $15. 5:30-6:30pm. St. Pete Shuffle at St. Petersburg Shuffleboard Club

Friday nights are free and open to the public at the St. Petersburg Shuffleboard Club! Bring your own food and beverages and enjoy the courts. 7:00-10:00pm.


"The Stars of Spring" at SPC Planetarium & Observatory

Explore the stars without trekking far from home, for a price that's out of this world: Free. The planetarium offers two free public shows on Friday nights when the college is in session. Shows are hosted by resident astronomer Dr. Craig Joseph and feature live narration with images displayed by computer-controlled projectors. Ages 5+. 7:00pm & 8:15pm.

Saturday, May 4th


Bird Walk at Boyd Hill Nature Preserve

Look for birds on this all-ages guided hike led by knowledgeable birders. Binoculars are available for loan. Free. 8:00am.


Saturday Morning Market at Al Lang Stadium

This lively and huge outdoor market opens at Al Lang Stadium every Saturday. Live music, a variety of vendors, and a strong sense of community make this market the heart of St. Pete. 9:00am-2:00pm.

Kids Workshop at The Home Depot

Make Mom’s day with a handmade blooming art piece. In this hands-on workshop you and your child can discuss the art of patience as you build a blooming work of art to gift or put on display. Once it is built, your child can decorate it with paint. All kids get to keep their craft, receive a certificate of achievement, a Workshop Apron, and a commemorative pin while supplies last. 9:00am-12:00pm.

Kidding Around Yoga at the Museum of Fine Arts

This class is specifically designed for kids – families welcome.  Practicing yoga with everyone in the family, and especially children, creates a special bond. Ages 3 & older. $5 per person, includes admission to the MFA Collection galleries only. 10:00-11:00am.

Saturdays @ the Morean is a free family drop-in art studio hosted by the Morean Arts Center. 10:00am-3:30pm.

Largo Central Railroad at Largo Central Park

Join Largo Central Railroad for a ride around beautiful Largo Central Park on the miniature railroad.  The accurately modeled scale locomotives pull you and your family along a mile long loop through great scenery, the spooky tunnel and a waterfall pond.  Fun for all ages! 10:00am-4:00pm.


Wiggle, Giggle, Sing & Dance at Barbara S. Ponce Public Library

Enjoy this all-ages, multi-sensory approach to music which includes a variety of song styles with dancing, bubbles, scarves, and rhythm instruments. Registration is required and space is limited! Please stop by the Youth Services desk or call the library at 727-369-0664 to reserve your child's spot. 10:30-11:15am.

Storytime at Barnes & Noble

Join Barnes & Noble for a storytime and activities featuring "High Five." 11:00am.


Little Surrealists Tour at The Dali Museum

Kids ages 4-11 are invited to bring their families on a special 1-hour Museum tour. Free with museum admission. 11:00am-12:00pm.


Make & Take at the Museum of Fine Arts

Create your own masterpiece inspired by works in the collection and special exhibitions. Supplies are included. Free with admission. 11:00am-2:00pm.


Pioneer Open House at Pinellas Pioneer Settlement

Step back in time for a relaxing afternoon with family and friends. Free! 11:00am-2:00pm.

LEGO Star Wars Event at Barnes & Noble

Star Wars fans can storm troop into stores for an afternoon of collaborative LEGO play and imagining a galaxy far, far away. Take a photo with a cool standee, and get an exclusive collectible poster, while supplies last. 2:00pm.

May the Fourth Be With You at Practically Pikasso

Calling all artistic Jedis from all across the galaxy! Practically Pikasso will have Star Wars Pottery as well as stickers & stencils to help with your design. You can paint one of the suggested Star Wars themed pottery pieces or you can paint whatever you’d like. Complimentary light snacks and beverages (Vader-aide and Jedi Juice!) are included for this family-themed event. Costumes are welcome and encouraged! $7 reserves your spot and includes refreshments and door prizes. Over 21? You are welcome to BYOB. Pottery piece selection will be paid day of the event. $20 fee applies for non-painters. 6:00-8:00pm.

Sensory Sensitive Sunday at Chuck E. Cheese's

Chuck E. Cheese's offers a sensory-friendly experience on the first Sunday of every month, opening stores two hours before normal opening time. Sensory Sensory events include a trained and caring staff that work to ensure each guest has a fun-filled visit. 9:00-11:00am.


Gopher Tortoise Walk at Boyd Hill Nature Preserve

Explore the endangered realm of the gopher tortoise with herpetologist George Heinrich in this all-ages walk. $3/adult, $1.50/child. 10:00am.


Family Yoga Class at Peace of Yoga

Kidding Around Yoga Classes with Desiree utilize yoga poses creatively tucked into partner yoga, games and activities, original music, stories and more. This yoga class is specifically designed for kids ages 2 & up. Donations accepted. 10:00am-11:00pm.


Largo Central Railroad at Largo Central Park

Sundays @ The Morean is a free family drop-in clay play session hosted by the Morean Center for Clay. Clay, tools and working tables provided, please bring your imagination. This session is open to all families with children ages 3 & up. 1:00-3:00pm.
