School's out for summer, and the first weekend of the month is always full of fun events for families! We're listing our favorites below to make it easy for you to spend some QT with the kids. Of course, you can always find even more things to do on our full calendar.

Friday, May 31st


Open Gym at Bayside Sports Academy

Open Gym is open to children ages 6 & under every Friday. $8/child. 9:00-11:00am.


Join makeme for a family art night! Choose a pre-sketched design to paint alongside your loved ones - or paint your own thing!  Admission price reflects two participants (both parent and child create their OWN artwork). Ages 4 & up; $25. 6:00pm.


St. Pete Shuffle at St. Petersburg Shuffleboard Club

Friday nights are free and open to the public at the St. Petersburg Shuffleboard Club! Bring your own food and beverages and enjoy the courts. 7:00-10:00pm.

Tampa Bay Rays at Tropicana Field

See the Rays play the Minnesota Twins at home on $7.11 ticket night. To take advantage of this deal, stop by any participating 7-Eleven to pick up your ticket voucher. 7:10pm.


Saturday, June 1st


Kiwanis Kids' Fishing Derby at Freedom Lake Park

This free event is for kids ages 12 and younger. Worms and/or bread will be provided for fishing (while supplies last). Basic poles will also be available to borrow. Registration starts at 7:30 am; fishing begins at 8:30. Prizes will be awarded, and a hot dog lunch will be available. Donations accepted. 7:30-11:30am.


Bird Walk at Boyd Hill Nature Preserve

Look for birds on a guided hike led by knowledgeable birders at this all-ages and free event. Binoculars are available for loan. 8:00am.


St. Pete Prepares! Hurricane Expo at Childs Park Recreation Center

Join the City of St. Petersburg in preparing for the 2019 Atlantic Hurricane Season! Hurricane preparedness is paramount for enhancing our community’s resilience and ensuring residents stay safe before, during and after a storm. During the expo, learn how to safely prepare. Attendees will also receive supplies to jump-start home hurricane preparedness kits. 9:00-11:00am.


Kids Workshop at The Home Depot

In this hands-on and free workshop you and your child can discuss the mindset, jargon and strategy of the game of golf as you build a putting green to master your hole-in-one. Once your course is built, your child can look fore-ward to decorating it with paint and stickers. All kids get to keep their craft, receive a certificate of achievement, a Workshop Apron, and a commemorative pin while supplies last. 9:00am-12:00pm.

Saturday Morning Market at Williams Park

Join the Saturday Morning Market for the Williams Park Summer Market featuring live music and vendors with fresh produce, read-to-eat foods, drinks, crafts, art, and more! This event will run every Saturday from June 1st until August 31st. 9:00am-1:00pm.


Kidding Around Yoga at the Museum of Fine Arts

This class is specifically designed for kids – families welcome.  Practicing yoga with everyone in the family, and especially children, creates a special bond. Ages 3 & older. $5 per person, includes admission to the MFA Collection galleries only. 10:00-11:00am.


Summer Reading Kick-Off: A Universe of Stories at Barbara S. Ponce Public Library

This year’s library summer theme, “A Universe of Stories”, was selected to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the Apollo moon landing. At this summer reading kick-off event, there will be time to explore a fire truck, try hands-on CPR, peer through a solar telescope with the St. Petersburg Astronomy Club, make some space crafts and get signed up for out of this world summer reading prizes! 10:00am-1:00pm


Summer Fun Day at Booker Creek Park

Kick-off summer with a day of fun at Booker Creek Park! Celebrate the new basketball and pickleball courts and walking trail at the park with a ribbon-cutting ceremony, and enjoy activities for all ages, including an inflatable, games, resources, and more! Food available between 11:30 AM - 1 PM. Hotdogs are $2 and cans of soda are $1. Proceeds will go to the North Kenwood Neighborhood Association. 10:00am-2:00pm


Open Tree Climb at Pathfinder Outdoor Education

Pathfinder's trained facilitators anyone ages 6 & up through a brief ground school before climbing at your own pace into the canopy of a gorgeous live oak. And it's FREE for every climber! 10:00am-3:00pm.


Largo Central Railroad at Largo Central Park

Join Largo Central Railroad for a ride around beautiful Largo Central Park on the miniature railroad.  The accurately modeled scale locomotives pull you and your family along a mile long loop through great scenery, the spooky tunnel and a waterfall pond.  Fun for all ages! 10:00am-4:00pm.


Fathers Day Paint Me a Story Time at Practically Pikasso

Join Practically Pikasso for a reading of "Froggy's Day with Dad" followed by pottery painting. Choose from a mug for dad, just like Froggy paints, or a frog figurine. $16 per painter when you register in advance; $18 per painter for walk ins. Suitable for painters of all ages; sibling discount available. 10:30-11:30am.

Join Weedon Island for a special Saturday program for kids aged 3-5 to read "Mr. Mosquito Put on His Tuxedo" (B.O. Morrow), the story of dapper Mr. Mosquito who dons his tuxedo and heads to the insect-only royal ball where surprises ensue! After the story kids will make a mosquito craft while learning about the parts of a mosquito, how/where they grow up, and how we can be mosquito safe while enjoying the outdoors. Then kids will get a take home sheet of how to be a "mosquito hunter" that they can return later for a prize. Space is limited. Pre-registration is required. 10:30-11:30am.


Storytime at Barnes & Noble

Join Barnes & Noble for a storytime and activities featuring "Lambslide." 11:00am.

Little Surrealists Tour at The Dali Museum

Kids ages 4-11 are invited to bring their families on a special 1-hour Museum tour. Free with museum admission. 11:00am-12:00pm.


Kick off pride weekend early with your little ones for this special pride edition of Drag Queen Story Hour! Gather at Community Cafe for some love-filled, kid friendly fun! 11:00am-12:00pm.


Summer Reading Kick-Off! with DoDad's Lab at St. Pete Beach Public Library

Join St. Pete Beach Public Library for their summer reading kick-off to celebrate A Universe of Stories! The professor is introducing a brand new show called Outer Space Science to take his audience into the galaxy. DoDad's Lab is full of audience participation, experiments, music, learning, and laughter. Kids will also get their summer reading bags at this event. 11:00am-12:00pm.

Make & Take at the Museum of Fine Arts

Create your own masterpiece inspired by works in the collection and special exhibitions. Supplies are included. Free with admission. 11:00am-2:00pm.

Pioneer Open House at Pinellas Pioneer Settlement

Step back in time for a relaxing afternoon with family and friends. Free! 11:00am-2:00pm.

Nerf Wars! at Jungle Gym

Join Jungle Gym for coach-led Nerf Battles in their padded and air conditioned gym. Cost is $10 for children ages 6+. Guns, darts, and goggles are provided. Pre-registration required. 12:00-1:00pm.


Children ages 4-11 can discover the creative world of Dali through games, puzzles and arts + crafts activities which educate and encourage family interaction. Cost is free. 12:00-2:30pm.


Tampa Bay Rays at Tropicana Field

See the Rays play the Minnesota Twins at home. All attendees will receive a Tommy Pham bobblehead (while supplies last). 1:10pm.


Creature Feature at Boyd Hill Nature Preserve

Live animal encounter! Learn interesting facts about a program animal featured at Boyd Hill Nature Preserve every Saturday and Sunday. 2:00pm.


Zoom into summer with the St. Petersburg Library System’s Summer Reading Blast-off Party featuring DoDad’s Lab.  DoDad’s Lab will present their Outer Space Science show. You can also pick up information about the summer reading programs including entry forms for the annual Mayor’s Summer Reading Challenge. 2:00-3:30pm.

Sensory Sensitive Sunday at Chuck E. Cheese's

Chuck E. Cheese's offers a sensory-friendly experience on the first Sunday of every month, opening stores two hours before normal opening time. Sensory Sensory events include a trained and caring staff that work to ensure each guest has a fun-filled visit. 9:00-11:00am.


Toddlerdega at Pro Karting Experience

This event is for mini driver ages 2-6 or Power Wheel size drivers! Pro Karting Experience supplies the race track, you supply the driver and the vehicle. $5 Pit Pass per driver; $20 for Power Wheel Rental/Pit Pass. 9:00-11:00am.

Bird of Prey Talk at Boyd Hill Nature Preserve

Join Boyd Hill for a 30 minute bird of prey show every Sunday! Get an up close look at a beautiful avian ambassador and learn how you can help birds of prey. Included with preserve admission. 10:00am.

Family Yoga Class at Peace of Yoga

Kidding Around Yoga Classes with Desiree utilize yoga poses creatively tucked into partner yoga, games and activities, original music, stories and more. This yoga class is specifically designed for kids ages 2 & up. Donations accepted. 10:00am-11:00pm.

Learn about the library's exciting summer plans for all ages, including programming, activities, reading incentives, and special guests! There will be crafts, games, and opportunities to sign up for summer events. Tony the Balloon Guy will be making balloon art and offering face painting.  Participate in a scavenger hunt and be entered into a prize drawing. Enjoy making ice cream sundaes. Guaranteed to be an afternoon of fun! 2:00-4:00pm.


SPARK Lab: Out of this World Jewelry at St. Petersburg Main Library

Children in grades 3-5 are invited to create a mermaid necklace, power bands, and jewelry out of unexpected materials at this free library event.
