Weekend Guide: October 4-6

A list of kid-friendly events in St. Petersburg, Florida.

The first weekend of October is here! That means the pumpkin patches are opening and fall events are beginning to pop up on the calendar. There are also tons of other fun happenings taking place in the Sunshine City this weekend. Click the links below for more information.

Friday, October 4


Open Gym at Bayside Sports Academy

Open Gym is open to children ages 6 & under every Friday. $8/child. 9:00-11:00am.

Terrific Tots at Great Explorations Children's Museum

On Wednesday and Friday mornings while Pinellas County Schools are in, before the museum opens to the public, members are invited to join Great Ex for songs, movement, art and story time in Great Beginnings at the museum! Terrific Tots is a unique bonding experience for children ages 1-3 and their caregivers. 9:30-10:00am.

Babytime at Gulfport Public Library

If you have little ones under 2 years old, please join Gulfport Public Library for Babytime. There will be songs, books, lap bounce rhymes, and the opportunity to meet other caregivers with infants and young toddlers. Older siblings are also welcome. 10:00-10:30am.

Toddler Early Literacy Program at St. Petersburg Main Library

Come join the main library for storytime featuring movement, music, and fun with rhymes, stories, and puppets! For children ages 1 - 3 with a caregiver. 10:15am & 11:00am.


The James Museum welcomes the youngest learners and their caregivers on the first Friday of every month. Grab your stroller and come for a morning filled with art, touchable objects, stories, songs, and a chance to connect with other adults. Each month brings a new theme and fun ways to explore through creative play. Ages 0–3 with an adult. Space is limited; reservations recommended. Included with admission; free for members. 10:30-11:30am.

Preschool Story Time at Gulf Beaches Public Library

Join Gulf Beaches Public Library for songs, stories, and crafts with a "Letter G" theme. 10:30am.

Master Builders at Barbara S. Ponce Public Library

Grades K and up can put their engineering skills to the test! Build with LEGO® bricks, KEVA® planks, and other fun materials. 3:30-4:30pm.

S.T.R.E.A.M. Club at Childs Park Library

Explore Science, Technology, Reading, Engineering, Arts, and Math at Childs Park Library's S.T.R.E.A.M. Club. Join in for hands-on science experiments, coding, stories, and more!For children grades 3 - 5. 4:15-5:00pm.

Kid's Night Out at Romp N Roll

Treat your kids ages 2 to 5 and yourself to a fun night out! Parents get an evening to themselves while the children get to run, play, dance, and have fun with energetic instructors. A pizza party dinner and bubble dance party are included. Children do not need to be potty-trained. $25/member, $30/non-member (sibling discount available). 6:00-9:00pm.

Parents Night Out/Friday Night Fun at Highland Recreation Complex

Kids will have a blast playing fun games throughout the facility including the gym, PlayWorld, and the game room. The snack shop will be open for purchases. Younger children are offered separate activities in the preschool room and must be potty trained. Cost: HC $70/$140 per season, Drop-in fee: $7/$14. 6:30-9:30pm.

Music in the Park at Seminole City Park

Meet at Seminole City Park for the 23rd year of this music series running six weeks during September and October. Free concert, free parking. Food and beverage available for purchase. 7:00-9:00pm.


Join St. Pete Beach Community Center each Friday in October for a night full of fun, food, and free live music! Dance the night away to some of your favorite local bands. 7:00-9:00pm.

Friday Night Shuffle at St. Petersburg Shuffleboard Club

Friday nights are free and open to the public at the St. Petersburg Shuffleboard Club! Bring your own food and beverages and enjoy the courts. 7:00-10:00pm.

"Legends of the Fall" at SPC Planetarium and Observatory

Each Friday in October, St. Petersburg College’s Planetarium and Observatory disguises itself as the “Haunted Planetarium.” Here, learn all about the Greek myth and lore playing out in the autumn skies, but watch out for ghosts, ghouls, zombies, and other creatures of the night. Parents, this one can get a little scary. The suggested minimum age is 7. 7:00pm & 8:15pm.


Kids Night Out Screamin' Splash Bash at Seminole Recreation Center

Come join fellow ghosts and ghouls for a spooky good time for Kids Night Out! The theme is Screamin' Splash Bash so bring your swimsuit. Pizza will be provided and concession snacks will be available for purchase. For children in grades K-5; members $10/ non-members $15.

Bird Walk at Boyd Hill Nature Preserve

Look for birds on a guided hike led by expert birders. Binoculars are available for loan. Free and for all ages! 8:00am.


SPAS Navigating Nature at Boyd Hill Nature Preserve

Navigating Nature, sponsored by the St. Petersburg Audubon Society, is a free camp for kids in grades 4 through 8. Campers are given the opportunity to experience nature up-close-and-personal through a variety of activities including nature walks, animal encounters, crafts, and hands-on science. Registration is required. 8:30-11:30am.


Kids Workshop at The Home Depot

Save the day during Fire & Safety Month and let your imagination soar as you build a fire plane. With a little help, you can learn to use a screwdriver to connect everything you’ll need to become airborne. You’ll be able to attach the wings, landing gear, adjust the tail fin, decorate the propellers with stickers and be ready to fly. All Kids Workshop attendees must be accompanied by a parent or adult at all times. All kids get to keep their craft, receive a FREE certificate of achievement, a Workshop Apron, and a commemorative pin while supplies last. 9:00am-12:00pm.


Saturday Morning Market at Al Lang Stadium

St. Petersburg's Saturday Morning Market returns for its 18th season this Saturday! This market is an extraordinary ode to great food, creative expression, and our wonderfully vibrant community. Come see what happens when you combine a Farmers Market, a Craft Fair, and a Festival into an amazing weekly gathering. 9:00am-2:00pm.

Join Sky Zone for an epic snowball fight with Elsa, Anna, & Olaf! This Character Toddler Time will be one to remember! Cost is $16 per child with free accompanying adults. 9:30-11:00am.


Open House at St. Petersburg Fire Rescue

Kick-off Fire Prevention Week with SPFR's Annual Open House! Visit ANY St. Petersburg Fire Station for a station tour and meet your local Firefighters. Cookies and juice will be served. 10:00am-12:00pm.


Open Tree Climb at Pathfinder Outdoor Education

Pathfinder's trained facilitators take you through a brief ground school and then you can climb at your own pace into the canopy of a gorgeous live oak. Anyone ages 6 and up can climb - it's not just for kids! And it's FREE for every climber. 10:00am-3:00pm.


Largo Central Railroad at Largo Central Park

Join Largo Central Railroad for a ride around beautiful Largo Central Park on the miniature railroad. The accurately modeled scale locomotives pull you and your family along a mile long loop through great scenery, the spooky tunnel, and our waterfall pond. Fun for all ages! 10:00am-4:00pm.

Saturdays at the Morean Arts Center

Saturdays @ the Morean is a free family drop-in art studio hosted by the Morean Arts Center. Art activities are geared toward children ages 5 to 10. 10:00am-12:30pm & 1:00-3:30pm.


Little Surrealists Tour at The Dali Museum

Kids ages 4-11 are invited to bring their families on a special 1-hour Museum tour. Free with museum admission. 11:00am-12:00pm.


Storytime at Barnes & Noble

Join Barnes & Noble for a storytime and activities featuring "A Night at the Bookstore." 11:00am-12:00pm.


Pioneer Open House at Pinellas Pioneer Settlement

Step back in time for a relaxing afternoon with family and friends. The tour of buildings begins at 11am. Free and for all ages! 11:00am-2:00pm.

Pumpkin Palooza Fall Festival at Northside Baptist Church

Join the GFWC Junior Woman's Club for the 16th Annual Pumpkin Palooza Family Fall Festival! This great family festival is fun for all. Pumpkin Palooza is open to the public and features kid’s inflatables, petting zoo, games, prizes, a pumpkin patch, pumpkin decorating, crafts, face and hair painting, opportunity baskets, vendors and much more. 11:00am-4:00pm.

Indie Flea St. Pete Street Faire at Green Bench Brewing Co.

Find Indie Flea at Green Bench Brewing the first Saturday of the month. Here, shop 100+ artisans and vendors, food trucks, mobile shops, live DJ, and more. This event is always free to attend and family- and pet-friendly! 12:00-4:00pm.

Children ages 4-11 can discover the creative world of Dali through games, puzzles and arts + crafts activities which educate and encourage family interaction. Cost is free. 12:00-2:30pm.

Creature Feature at Boyd Hill Nature Preserve

Live animal encounter! Learn interesting facts about a program animal featured at Boyd Hill Nature Preserve every Saturday and Sunday. 2:30pm.

Tinkergarten at Crescent Lake Park

In each session of this fall series, Tinkergarten Leader, Elise Pickett, will facilitate a different expert-designed play lesson, welcoming children of various ages and needs to explore, problem-solve, communicate, collaborate, and create together. Registration required. 5:00-6:15pm.

Parents' Night Out at Peace of Yoga

Whether you are enjoying an evening out, a good movie, or a long dinner, Peace of Yoga is offering a 3-hour mini-camp for parents to have a night out, guilt-free! Meanwhile, your kids will be engaged by activities promoting mindfulness, peace, and compassion using breathing techniques, Yoga postures, and meditation to help manage daily stressors and big emotions. A light snack and take-home craft are included. For ages 6-12; $35/child ($25/sibling). 6:00-9:00pm.

Sunday, October 6

Sensory Sensitive Sunday at Chuck E. Cheese's

Chuck E. Cheese's offers a sensory-friendly experience on the first Sunday of every month, opening stores two hours before normal opening time. Sensory events include a trained and caring staff that works to ensure each guest has a fun-filled visit. 9:00-11:00am.


Family Yoga Class at Peace of Yoga

Kidding Around Yoga Classes with Desiree utilize yoga poses creatively tucked into partner yoga, games and activities, original music, stories and more. This yoga class is specifically designed for kids (2 and older), but moms, dads, grandparents, and other caregivers are welcome! Donations accepted. 10:00-11:00am.

Alligator Walk at Boyd Hill Nature Preserve

Learn about the American alligator, Florida’s state reptile, which calls our wetlands home on this all-ages, ranger-guided hike. $3/adult, $1.50/child. 11:30am.

Sundays at the Morean Center for Clay

Sundays @ The Morean is a free family drop-in Clay Play Session hosted by the Morean Center for Clay. Clay, tools and working tables provided, please bring your imagination. This session is open to all families with children (not recommended for children under 3 years old). 1:00-3:00pm.

Chess Club at Barbara S. Ponce Public Library

Does your K-12 grader enjoy playing chess? Are they interested in learning the game? If so, join the library for Chess Club to learn the game or put their skills to the test! This program is run by teen volunteers. Registration required. Stop by or call Youth Services at 727-369-0664 to register. 1:30-2:30pm.

Creature Feature at Boyd Hill Nature Preserve

Live animal encounter! Learn interesting facts about a program animal featured at Boyd Hill Nature Preserve every Saturday and Sunday. 2:30pm.


SPARK Lab at St. Petersburg Main Library

Children in grades 3-5 can create and learn with activities that focus on S.T.R.E.A.M. (Science, Technology, Reading, Engineering, Arts, and Math).  2:30-3:30pm.
