Weekend Guide: September 27 -29

A list of kid-friendly events in St. Petersburg, Florida.

Fall is officially underway. Yes, we know that doesn't mean much in Florida, but there are lots of fun things happening this weekend that will help us transition into spooky pumpkin season.


Speaking of pumpkins, our official guide to 2019 Kid-Friendly Halloween Events is live. Check it out and let us know if you have an event to add.


Friday, September 27


Open Gym at Bayside Sports Academy

Open Gym is open to children ages 6 & under every Friday. $8/child. 9:00-11:00am.


Terrific Tots at Great Explorations Children's Museum

On Wednesday and Friday mornings while Pinellas County Schools are in, before the museum opens to the public, members are invited to join Great Ex for songs, movement, art and story time in Great Beginnings at the museum! Terrific Tots is a unique bonding experience for children ages 1-3 and their caregivers. 9:30-10:00am.


Babytime at Gulfport Public Library

If you have little ones under 2 years old, please join Gulfport Public Library for Babytime. There will be songs, books, lap bounce rhymes, and the opportunity to meet other caregivers with infants and young toddlers. Older siblings are also welcome. 10:00-10:30am.


Toddler Early Literacy Program at St. Petersburg Main Library

Come join the main library for story time featuring movement, music and fun with rhymes, stories, and puppets! For children ages 1 - 3 with a caregiver. 10:15am & 11:00am.


Preschool Story Time at Gulf Beaches Public Library

Join Gulf Beaches Public Library for songs, stories, and crafts with a "Cows" theme. 10:30am.


Afternoons at the Library at Barbara S. Ponce Public Library

Grades K and up can join the library after school for fun and exciting drop-in activities. Get hands-on and explore and learn by making art, playing games, doing science experiments, building fantastic creations, and investigating new worlds through books. 3:30-4:30pm.


S.T.R.E.A.M. Club at Childs Park Library

Explore Science, Technology, Reading, Engineering, Arts, and Math at Childs Park Library's S.T.R.E.A.M. Club. Join in for hands-on science experiments, coding, stories, and more!

For children grades 3 - 5. 4:15-5:00pm.


Join makeme for a family art night! Choose a pre-sketched design to paint alongside your loved ones - or paint your own thing!  Admission price of $25 reflects two participants (both parent and child create their OWN artwork). Ages 4 & up. 6:00pm.


Kid's Night Out at Romp N Roll

Treat your kids ages 2 to 5 and yourself to a fun night out! Parents get an evening to themselves while the children get to run, play, dance, and have fun with energetic instructors. A pizza party dinner and bubble dance party are included. Children do not need to be potty-trained. $25/member, $30/non-member (sibling discount available). 6:00-9:00pm.


Parents Night Out/Friday Night Fun at Highland Recreation Complex

Kids will have a blast playing fun games throughout the facility including the gym, PlayWorld, and the game room. The snack shop will be open for purchases. Younger children are offered separate activities in the preschool room and must be potty trained. Cost: HC $70/$140 per season, Drop-in fee: $7/$14. 6:30-9:30pm.


Music in the Park at Seminole City Park

Meet at Seminole City Park for the 23rd year of this music series running six weeks during September and October. Free concert, free parking. Food and beverage available for purchase. 7:00-9:00pm.


Friday Night Shuffle at St. Petersburg Shuffleboard Club

Friday nights are free and open to the public at the St. Petersburg Shuffleboard Club! Bring your own food and beverages and enjoy the courts. 7:00-10:00pm.


"Legends of the Fall" at SPC Planetarium and Observatory

Explore the stars without trekking far from home, for a price that's out of this world: free! The planetarium offers two free public shows on Friday nights at 7pm and 8:15pm when the college is in session. Shows are hosted by resident astronomer Dr. Craig Joseph and feature live narration with images displayed by computer-controlled projectors. First-come, first-served seating; ages 5 & up. 7:00pm & 8:15pm.


Saturday, September 28


CareFest is a festival of service projects running September 21 to October 6 in which volunteers from organizations and individuals adopt projects to help those in need in St. Pete. CareFest volunteers are invited to participate in the CareFest Kickoff and Celebration. Light breakfast will be served at 8 a.m. Volunteers then go to their respective project sites and return by 11:30 a.m. for lunch and a recognition celebration. 8:00am-12:00pm.


Don't miss Buzz, Woody, and Forky at the best toddler time around! Cost is $16 per child with free accompanying adults. 9:30-11:00am.


Sensory Friendly Film at Cobb Tyrone Luxury 10

Sensory Friendly showings provide families with varying abilities the opportunity to enjoy a family-friendly film where kids can be themselves in a safe and accepting environment. Abominable begins at 10am. 10:00am.


Super Hero Day at Great Explorations Children's Museum

Tap into your own superpowers and perfect your superhero look at Great Explorations! Explore Superhero Science, design your own superhero mask, hunt for Kryptonite, and much more. All activities are included in admission. 10:00am-2:00pm.


HR Trains & Toys is having a Yard Sale! There will be local businesses set up as well as a huge yard sale, food vendor, music, running trains, face painting, and more. 10:00am-2:00pm.


Saturdays at the Morean Arts Center

Saturdays @ the Morean is a free family drop-in art studio hosted by the Morean Arts Center. Art activities are geared toward children ages 5 to 10. 10:00am-12:30pm & 1:00-3:30pm.


Fall STEM at Barbara S. Ponce Public Library

Kids ages 5 & under can explore lots of engaging STEM activities that will include fall-themed science experiments, technology projects, math games, engineering challenges. Registration is required. 10:30am-1:30pm.


Hispanic Heritage Month Celebration at Willis S. Johns Recreation Center

Join TASCO in celebrating Hispanic culture at the Hispanic Heritage Month Celebration. The event will include live music and DJ, inflatable, games, vendors and plenty of fun for all. FREE food for the first 500 in attendance! Admission is FREE. 11:00am-3:00pm.

Little Surrealists Tour at The Dali Museum

Kids ages 4-11 are invited to bring their families on a special 1-hour Museum tour. Free with museum admission. 11:00am-12:00pm.


Reptile and Amphibian Hike at Boyd Hill Nature Preserve

Join Boyd Hill to explore the preserve hoping to cross paths with gopher tortoises, yellow rat snakes, southern leopard frogs, and so much more! This is a casual way to grow your knowledge about reptiles and amphibians. Adventure awaits! Included with preserve admission. 11:00am.


Storytime at Barnes & Noble

Join Barnes & Noble for a storytime and activities featuring "How I Met My Monster." 11:00am-12:00pm.

Children ages 4-11 can discover the creative world of Dali through games, puzzles and arts + crafts activities which educate and encourage family interaction. Cost is free. 12:00-2:30pm.


Prehistoric Playground at Gulfport Public Library

This program is Dino-riffic! Grades K-5 can make their own dinosaur egg, 3D triceratops mask, and see-through dinosaur magnets. 2:00-3:00pm.


Support Movies at the Royal this Saturday! Located at the Historic Royal Theater in the Deuces, this film is for the whole family to enjoy. Doors open at 2pm. The film starts at 2:22pm. With a $2 donation, you get a hot dog, snack, and drink. 2:00pm.


Creature Feature at Boyd Hill Nature Preserve

Live animal encounter! Learn interesting facts about a program animal featured at Boyd Hill Nature Preserve every Saturday and Sunday. 2:30pm.


4th Saturday Art Walk: Spookfest at Pinellas Arts Village

Pinellas Arts Village kicks off the Halloween season with creepy, crawly, artsy fun for all at the "Spookfest" art walk. Visit the galleries and studios for original art and gifts; feast your eyes on live paintings and your ears on live music; stop into the pub and sweet shop for treats and drinks; discover unique handmade items, décor and even Cosplay gear from a variety of vendors; and of course, ride The Terror Tent. 4:00-10:00pm.


Taste of the Beaches at Horan Park

Taste of the Beaches celebrates great music with local bands and amazing food from area restaurants & vendors. The event is a fundraiser for the Tampa Bay Beaches Chamber of Commerce as well as supporting a member non-profit, Habitat for Humanity of Pinellas and West Pasco Counties. 5:00-9:00pm.


Tinkergarten at Crescent Lake Park

In each session of this fall series, Tinkergarten Leader, Elise Pickett, will facilitate a different expert-designed play lesson, welcoming children of various ages and needs to explore, problem-solve, communicate, collaborate, and create together. Registration required. 5:00-6:15pm.


Pioneer Night at Pinellas Pioneer Settlement

Kids enjoy a night of friends, fun, campfire, and s’mores, pioneer style! Ages 6 to 13; cost is $22. 6:00-10:00pm.


Movies in the Park at McDevitt Park

The Pinellas Park Firefighters would like to invite you and your friends to McDevitt Park for a free outdoor movie. This event outdoors so bring chairs or blankets for seating. Event is weather permitting. This month's movie is ALADDIN (2019)! 7:00-10:00pm.


Sunday, September 22


Family Yoga Class at Peace of Yoga

Kidding Around Yoga Classes with Desiree utilize yoga poses creatively tucked into partner yoga, games and activities, original music, stories and more. This yoga class is specifically designed for kids (2 and older), but moms, dads, grandparents and other caregivers are welcome! Donations accepted. 10:00-11:00am.


Baby & Me Storytime at Barnes & Noble

Baby & Me Storytime is for caregivers and children 0-24 months old. Join in to read a book and participate in activities featuring sensory growth for your little ones. Plus, get a free Starbucks tall, hot or iced coffee (Café stores only). 11:00am.


Nickelodeon Worldwide Day of Play at Great Explorations Children's Museum

Join Great Ex for an afternoon of gross motor activities including an obstacle course created through the Imagination Playground exhibit, Dance Time led by Education Guides at the Raymond James Theatre Stage, Hula Hoop play, and so much more! All activities are included with membership or general admission. 12:00-3:00pm.


Sundays at the Morean Center for Clay

Sundays @ The Morean is a free family drop-in Clay Play Session hosted by the Morean Center for Clay. Clay, tools and working tables provided, please bring your imagination. This session is open to all families with children (not recommended for children under 3 years old). 1:00-3:00pm.


Chess Club at Barbara S. Ponce Public Library

Does your K-12 grader enjoy playing chess? Are they interested in learning the game? If so, join the library for Chess Club to learn the game or put their skills to the test! This program is run by teen volunteers. Registration required. Stop by or call Youth Services at 727-369-0664 to register. 1:30-2:30pm.
